Re: Westinghouse LD-4655VX
Sorry to hear you had troubles pallain. Received my ffc recently for my set, and I'm going to install it tomorrow. Your experience will make me extra cautious.
If it means anything, thanks for sharing.......it can only help us learn what to do, and what not to do.

Re: Asus K53E is destroying my LED screens
Yes, the joint indeed attaches to the LAN ground.
I did take pictures, but no close ups sorry.
Here is a pic of the mobo.
This board is very thin so it flex's badly, especially around the dc jack.

Re: Asus K53E is destroying my LED screens
I just did a complete teardown of this same system for the same reason........bad dc jack. I did not remove the entire jack.....just resoldered the center leg, it had cracked right where it coms out of the jack and curves down into the motherboard.
Found the fault by turning the lights off, and in a dimmely lit room I plugged the power brick in and saw a blue arch jump the gap....... a little flux, a little heat, a little solder, as good as new.
As far as the green screen, check your solder connections on that new jack...one...

Re: Westinghouse LD-4655VX
Yes. 2 weeks ago today, I was walking my dog and found a Westinghouse ld-4680 tv gently leaning on a empty Vizio box, (apparently to replace the Westinghouse set).
Not many hours on this tv. No dust inside... like new.
Did the troubleshooting thing the wrong way and cooked the left ffc to led assembly.
If that cable works for you, I'll be ordering one next payday.

Re: Westinghouse LD-4655VX
It is the FCC end that goes to the led board. It wraps around a piece of steel before it goes into the led board and has a tendency to short out there.
I too used a laptop adaptor without short circuit protection and smoked the FCC going to the led board. Hopefully you did not do this.
You have to look closely to see if the ffc is burnt (damaged).

Re: Westinghouse LD 4655VX odd problem
The ribbon cable has 12 contacts, so 12 wires.
Not sure if I could do that precise of work soldering, But it's an idea.

Re: Westinghouse LD 4655VX odd problem
Hello tom66, great site here, learning something new everyday.
I'm not sure, I would have to check, because I haven't taken the bezel off the tv so I don't know how many led's that ribbon cable is supplying, and I haven't measured the output off the main board.

Re: Westinghouse LD 4655VX odd problem
Glad it worked out.
The set I'm working on is a version of your set. The model I have is Westinghouse LD-4680.......as far as I can tell it is the same as the LD 4655VX except sold at Walmart and or Costco, but suffers from the same problem.
I made the mistake of using a power supply with the same rating as the tv factory one, except it was for a laptop, and it didn't have the short circuit cut off like the TV's factory one. When I had the back of the set off and plugged that wrong supply in, I saw smoke coming from the ffc that...
