    Dell XPS M1330 power problems?

I was just wondering, if anyone has cracked this yet? Ruling out all possible issues with broken wires/plugs, it seems to be quite common for the m1330 to develop a short, forget how to communicate with the charger or to simply roll over and die.

I for one have 3 of those machines sitting in the "i'll come back to it" pile. One of them only works off the battery and doesn't want to know anything about chargers. One of them is shorted and I can't figure out for the life of me where from. And one of them powers up and doesn't boot after getting a taste of a broken charger.

On all three of these I've followed the circuits from the DC jack to the power controllers and everything seems to be according to spec and electrons do flow. My guess is that either the MAX8731 or SMSC ECE5021 that fails in random magnitudes. Haven't tried replacing them, since it looks like a PITA of a job to ensure there won't be any cold joints after soldering.

So has anyone had any success in getting these boards to work after charger troubles?

(Schematics for the board with Intel graphics, if anyone wants to take a look:http://search.4shared.com/postDownlo...chematics.html)

(Interesting read on what and how the board identifies the chargers: http://www.laptop-junction.com/toast...r-id-chip-died)

Replacing those charging management IC's isn't as hard as you think it is. Takes practice, sure but what doesn't in this line of work? Hot air gun and flux is your friend here (and a pre-heat plate to warm underneath helps out). The problem with the shorted board can be traced using a regulated power supply. Something that can regulate 1-19v at at least an amp. Simulate "charging" the laptop with this power supply starting at 1v, then slowly move to 5v at 1A. Have a IR gun on hand to run across the board the check for heated components. The path of least resistance will be whatever component is shorted and absorbing all the current. Probably a cap. Maybe a mosfet hidden from your meter (likely in the buck controller). If nothing else - then the power management / charging IC is very likely the culprit.

Dead Dell Latitude 5420 not receiving 20 volts from USB-C charger
      by BTubbs200
      Hello,

      Dell Latitude 5420 P137G
      Board: LA-K491P REV A01

I have received this laptop which was described as "does not power on or accept charge." Battery shows no sign of charging when charger is plugged in, nor does the board show any signs of life when battery is unplugged and charger is plugged in. No light from the LED at all or any other indications of activity.

Board seems to have no shorts, all power rails are fine and show high resistance.

When charger is plugged in, voltage is present in 3.3V rail but absent in others....

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
      by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

ASUS X54H laptop thinks it's always charging even with charger unplugged
      by flat-earther
The charging indicator light on my ASUS X54H laptop is always on even when the charger is disconnected.

Windows also shows ''Plugged in'' when charger is not connected.

This problem started year ago gradually, when unplugging the charger the charging light took several seconds to disappear, then minutes, and now almost always on even when unplugged for an entire day.
Strangely, before sometimes immediately when plugging in the charger the charging light went away, and later came back with it connected.
If I let battery run out and say it has 3% Windows will...

Dell G3 15 3500 - Battery bug (black screen and flashing keyboard backlight)
      by HTR-Informatique
      Hello,

YouTube video of the problem encountered: https://youtube.com/shorts/q7TLNv36LUo

I am a pro and I have a problem that I have never seen despite my 7.5 years of experience on my own and my thousands of repairs, on a customer's Dell G3 15 3500.

On this PC I have already changed the complete palmrest because the keyboard was no longer working properly.

I also changed the screen because the PC fell and the screen was broken.

I changed the battery with a new and original battery.

I also had corrosion/oxidation on the...
