    liquid damaged laptops

at the moment i am using IPA or thinners to clean liquid from mainboards however i have been offered a bulk deal on spill damaged electronics goods.as its a lot of items i am going to invest in a ultrasonic bath to do a better job of cleaning them.my question is can i carry on using the IPA or thinners in the ultrasonic bath or does anyone use specialist cleaning products to clean the mainboards with.

    thanks

    Re: liquid damaged laptops

most of the ultrasonic baths i have come across have used a special chemical cleaner, with the vibrations that the bath producers IPA will probably evaporate off before its done the job anyway, thinners leaves a residue which may cause problems itself unless its cleaned off and if its got under components which are squeezed close to the pcb residue will get trapped underneath.

ASUS Rog Strix G17-712LV Laptop Liquid damaged
      by XxMicroSoldering
      Hello Guys

I have a ASUS Rog strix laptop that I bought recently to fix and the previous owner spilled water on it . He brought it into a repair shop for them to check it out and instead of fixing it they damaged the battery connector of the laptop ! Other than that they damaged damaged nothing . But since the liquid damage the laptop only turns on and the keyboard lights up and then immediately turns off. I really want to repair this laptop and I also have experience in repairing phones etc and laptops and a bit of soldering but the diagnosing part is where I need help with and...

a2338 2020 Macbook Pro liquid damaged won't turn on- weird issue
      by bigbadbios
      Hi,
I am trying to fix this liquid damaged 2020 Macbook pro and I noticed something weird.
When I push on/around the renesas 501cr0b IC, which appears to be a clock generator/ multiplier, If I apply lot of pressure, the device will reach 19.9 volts and seems to be trying to work.
I have thoroughly reflowed that area and completely removed that chip (there was some liquid stain in that area) but no help. I have just 5v 0a unless I apply the pressure.
Your help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

HP Probook 450 g5 Liquid damaged USB-C / Display port switcher
      by maybepanic
      Hey,
      I've got a liquid damaged HP Probook 450 g5.
There was a lot of corrosion around the Paradetech PS8743B B1 chip, plus what looks like heat damage from a short. There are no schematics available for the board, nor could I find any schematics from paradetech for the USB-C / Display port switcher.
Is there anything else I can do to increase my chances of fixing the board apart from checking for shorts around the ic and replacing it?
Attached some pics of my liquid damaged board, closeup of the cleaned ic and a pic of a good board I found online.
      Thanks!...

Strange liquid on damaged GTX1080 card
      by kurland
      Hi,

I'm fixing a GPU card for a streamer, was sent to me by mail. A shorted cap on a power rail has severely burned the PCB.

As you can see from the darkened PCB around the mosfets there are signs of liquid damage. But it's odd because the person says no water has entered the PC cabinet. If you spill something on a desktop you would know I guess...

Funny thing is that the liquid is not only on the PCB but on top of many chips which are tightly covered by thermal padding under the heatsink, even on top of some of the RAM chips

Macbook Air A1466 EMC 3178 missing power and liquid damaged
      by BMCappelletti
      Hi everyone.
Macbook Air A1466 EMC 3178 (board 820-00165 A) not turning on and no charging light. Completely dead. With no battery connected it would power up and I could hear the chime, but nothing on the screen and then a sudden turn off. Sometimes during the chime. Opened it up and found some liquid damage. The flat that connects both boards has damage in one side (with a missing pin already). The connectors on the boards are fine, though.
Also, there was liquid damage on the included picture area, which are R8111 and C8111. A quick and soft brush on it made the resistor be gone....
