in the end the question still remains, should I go for it, or is this something I should not even bother ordering from digikey and waiting another few days for it to get here?

I already got the jack in, I probably should of done the rv's first anyways

well I did it, put it on without replacing them. seems to work ok, sometimes I get a very high-pitch noise from it when its off (so high only dogs can hear it-and me)

still works though, charges and everything

the RVs are much easier to do after the jack, at least for me. In fact, I usually take them off before I replace a D610 jack, as they just get in the way. I put them back when I'm done.

On a side note - why are the D610 power jacks so failure prone? I see them break occasionally in other models, but it's broken in nearly all the D610s. At least the Tyco ones, the Foxconn ones seem to fare slightly better.
