    Dell 3421 wont turn on with strange behavior

    Hi all
    I've been working on dell 3421 that won't turn on/charge
    Specs: i3-3217U no discrete gpu

    The behavior is
    -won't charge (charging light up for 3 second and goes away)
    -won't turn on if both battery + power adapter plugged in
    -in other way it can turn on with either power adapter only or battery only

    But sometimes all this issue goes away with no clear reason.
    Does it indicates faulty board chipset?

      Review the DCin mosfets. Often the 2nd DCin mosfet will be leaky. Review the sticky article above by @Piernov on charger circuits.

          Digging around and just found out that 5v/3v tps51225 was faulty and glowing hot

              Before going for replacement of 51225 Ic,do take measurements of PSL logic circuit. Often, its PSL fault and not the PWM itself. Other reason could be shorting in RTC circuit.

                  You're correct, the pwm it self was fine
                  Still searching the rabbit hole..

                      I'd check the peripherals that are connected in standby. Could be a bad keyboard or touchpad or the KBC chip itself.

                          Going by this board, its either shorted/leaky RTC and/or PSL circuit.

                              Hi everyone,

                              I am dealing with the problem of turning on and off my Dell e7470 notebook.

                              The battery charge light is solid white, I press the button, the power indicator and the light on the button are solid for 1-2 seconds and immediately turn off.

                              The system does not turn on, there is no post.

                              I removed the RAMs and changed them, changed the battery, RTC battery, AC adapter, removed them and waited, tried again, it does not turn on.
                              The problem continues in the same way.
                              I tried to turn on the Fn key, nothing came to the screen....

                              My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

                              Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

                              My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
                              The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.

                              I just recieved a working laptop for a quick dc port swap, i tested the laptop on battery it worked, tested dc port issue felt loose, so disassembled the laptop and removed battery connector, swapped the dc port, re-connected the battery connector, inserted dc pin, white led glowed up - stable, pressed power switch, but it didn't turn on, no fan spin and no display. just 1 white led that glows up, doesn't move to orange (charging), i check voltage (battery : 11.37v) (dc input port : 19.3v)(bios : 1.75), i am stumped, there is no shorting on board.

                              After pressing the power button, it doesn't turn on. No increased power consumption.
                              Additionally, the 5V USB draw only appears in one cable position on both connectors - no negotiation for higher voltages.
