Dell Latitude E6440 - Charger light goes out when plugged in

    Hello everyone,

New user here with a similar situation as described on other thread with similar Dell unit. I hope someone can help me out in this case.

Motherboard VAL91 LA-9932P. I read the whole thread through and this was a good start to figure my problem out, although I am not quite sure if my situation is slightly different as per visual inspection it is obvious that something blew out and I need some guidelines on how to proceed to troubleshoot it.

I am posting a couple of images, one is the taken on the suspected part in question which I believe that could be a capacitor; the other image is an excerpt of the schematics for this MB I downloaded online.

The photo shows what it looks like a large capacitor apparently destroyed which I think it could be a potential cause of the short-circuit on the MB, unfortunately, no description mark around the component on the board can tell exactly what capacitance or type of capacitor is.

Is there anyone who can enlighten me on this matter? I am not an expert on this field but I can do some repair if someone can guide me through the right path of troubleshooting.

    10uF,25V in 0805 package.

You can just de solder this cap and check between the two pads with your meter set in diode mode.Does it still gives a beep sound? If yes, then still there is a short and if No, most likely short is gone.

PS: If short is gone ,you can try to power up the PC without this cap for test purpose.
