    Macbook Air 13 2020 A2179 820-01958 partial power

Hi, glad to be back here after 3 busy years, today I'm working on this board (first T2, so forgive my stupid questions) board looks clean but maybe cleaned before

    Volt/Ampmeter says 5V -> 20V and steady 0.095A

It seems power on, yesterday when I plugged charger I had the plugging sound and nothing on screen, I first thought about display problem, but I noticed that when I long press power button to force shut up, voltages that are not present when the board is turned off fall to 0 and rise up as soon as it tries to restart immediately.

I tried to put it into DFU mode and restore firmware, it's OK but no changes (I haven't heard any sound since, but the voltages haven't changed)

I tried to measure voltages indicated onhttps://logi.wiki/index.php/CD3217_and_T2_Power_on_Sequence and on this post https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=103063

all before power button is pressed are OK except maybe PPVDDCPU_AWAKE which is pretty low, 0.55V schematics indicates 0.625 - 1.06V, after all KO except PP3V3_S5 which is oscillating 3.15-3.25V PP5V_S5 is OK 5.1
    SMC_RST_L are low

any idea to start or common fault?

    Thanks

Have the same design by the devil here.

PP3V3_S5 - remove all power. Measure the resistance to ground of this rail. Also check if the enable for this rail is oscillating or not after the above check.

BTW..do you need a battery to test this board? Have no screen, no keyboard and no battery so asking about your setup to help diagnose this board as well.

not sure there is an _EN for PP3V3_S5 it seems to be generated by U7800, all others OK rails are steady, exactly same res as on the working board I have (130K)

Just tested with this board, starts without battery/keyboard, CPU hot SMC_RST_L high of course

I've noticed that PM_SLP_SUS_L is fluctuating less than 2V, and RES to GND is not 100K like on the working board but only 60K. I have replaced U7700, RES to GND is OK, now fluctuating up to 3.3V but always not steady (maybe bad soldered, 3 years I have not practiced )

Carefully remove R7715 and see if the PM_SLP_SUS_L signal returns to a stable 3v3 level.

I tried with U7700 removed, I think it's even better, right? same oscillating value

Macbook Air 2020 A2179 Internet Recovery and Battery Issues
              by cheebster
Hello, i have a batch of 10 Macbook Pros A2179 bought from a Costco return wholesaler.

              The 10 of them show the exact same behavior;

They auto power on, to internet recovery spinning globe, fans to 100%.

Power consumption on USB-C port is 0.43a, shuts down as soon as unplugged. Battery doesn't charge at all. However, it boots to 20V on the Ampmeter.

Based on their iBridge versions (4.x and 5.x) these were shelfed for a long time.

All of them power on the same way; 100% fans, shut down as soon as they are unplugged. Removing...

              MacBook Air 13" 2020 A2179 Audio Board
              by tccyo22
Hey all! I have a MacBook Air 13" 2020 A2179 that won't switch on with the audio board connected so before just replacing it outright I took a quick look and found a cracked cap and short. Removed the cap and the short has gone so want to replace the cap to see if we can use this audio board still.

TL;DR Anyone know the value of the cap circled in red in the attached picture?...

Macbook Air 2020 (a2179) - touch id not working
              by obelix24
Hi i have one Macbook Air 2020 where touch ID is not working (it's not scanning fingerprints). Touch ID was working before, there is no error message during scanning fingerprint it's just not scanning on screen you can see only fingerprint but there are no red updates as when it's working. Power button is working fine.

I've checked boardview and also schematics but i'm not able to find anything related to TouchID ... i have similar issue on a2338 where there was problem with PP3V0_TOUCHID and after replacing UT610 it was working but here i'm not able to find anything related to...

              Macbook Air 2020 A2179 820-01958 battery problem?
              by sdogs
              Hi everyone,
I have a MacBook Air A2179 in my hands that had power problems (5V to the USB-C port intermittently).
After a first inspection I could see that the D3302 protection IC was burnt out, so I replaced it but the problem was not solved, it seems like intermittent 5v input.
I then replaced the two u3200s (CD3217B12ACE) and now I have stable 20 volts and the macbook has turned back on.
Unfortunately I have a further problem, it works very slowly and the fan runs at maximum and if I disconnect the charger it turns off, it's as if the battery was disconnected.

              Macbook Air 2020 (A2179 / 820-01958) PPBUS_G3H fluctuates from 0 to 12V
              by gervaisc
Hello, I am troubleshooting my daugther's MacBook Air 2020 (A2159), no liquid spills, not dropped. It was working well for the last 3 1/2 years and now refuse to power on.

Took of the board (nothing connected). Visual inspection with microscope looks ok. The USB-C voltage is 5.17V, current fluctuates from 0.05A to 0.120A. No sign of 20V.

I followed the (excellent) guide here: https://repair.wiki/w/MacBook_Air_A2...w_at_5V_repair

1- No shortsbetween PPBUS_G3H and ground. It shows more than 1Mohm
              2- The PPDCIN_G3H...
