    Macbook A1466 820-00165 - Suddenly Off

    Hello,
    Namaste.

Just in a Macbook a1466 820-00165. It stopped working suddenly as per the customer.

Charger has Green/Orange Light. PPBUS_G3H is at 9.2V. (Which is weird)
The Fan spins continuous at normal speed.
The board is clean. There was corrosion near U3900 - the Camera IC.
Replaced the BadCaps there. No other signs on corrosion anywhere else.
    Still the same.

    Can anyone help me?

Is this a different case than the above thread?

    Same high PPBUS_G3H ??

        Hey

Check the track pad and IPD flex

Fixed many machines of this type with strange behaviour an always points to either the trackpad.

Maybe also a top case/keyboard issue as this connects through the trackpad!!

        Hope this helps somewhat

Replaced the TopCase as well.Still the issue is same. The High PPBUS was a faulty meter.

          PPBUS_G3H is at 8.6V.

There is a normal fan spin. But the device wont boot.
          No Chime.

Remove the SSD. Power up again. Do you see a backlight? Do you see a flashing folder graphic? Have you tested with a flashlight behind the display to check for graphics? Keycap led toggle?

              None.
              No Caps Key Toggle
              No Graphic.

                Getting Voltage at ALL_SYS_PWRGD = 3.4V.
                But ALL_SYS_PWRGD_R is missing.

                PPDCIN_G3H_ISOL and PPDCIN_G3H are at 14.6V instead of 18.5V/

Remove all power. Check the resistance of R8162.

Check the resistance from pin #8 of U8160 and ALL_SYS_PWRGD.

Also was going through all the major rails -

                    PP15V_TBT is 0V
PPHV_S0SW_LCDBKLT is 0V. (Maybe because Display isnt connected checking with bare board connected to the adapter)

PPVIN_SW_TBTBST - I could not find this rail in my schematics.

Red to Ground. Meter in the Resistance Mode
                    R8162
                    Pin# 1 is 0
                    Pin# 2 is 1.43m

                    Pin#8 of U8160 is 0

Check the resistance of r8162 with probes across the resistor.

If pin #1 resistance to ground is 0 ohms, this implies that the reset ic output pin #8 is shorted. Double check this. Could the meter be showing OL ?

Yes the Meter is Showing OL. Apologies for the miscommunication. Image attached.

Also with Probes across R8162 its still showing 0.L

OL means the range selected on the meter is too low to test the part so select another setting.

In the future, consider to purchase an autoranging meter which will make these checks much easier.

That was an Auto-Range Meter i think.

                            Anyway
Using another meter set to the 2M scale.

                            Resistance to Ground
                            Pin #2 is .993
                            Pin#1 is 1.

Also this resistor is actually not present on the board. Its a blank spot with 2 pads. Same for U8160

PP15V_TBT is usually disabled till something is plugged in to the Thunderbolt port. Backlight isn't enabled if a display isn't detected. U8160 is no stuff IIRC, so ALL_SYS_PWRGD is entirely driven off Q8150.

Besides, fan spin implies that you have CPU Vcore so you are barking up the wrong tree. You need to troubleshoot post S0 state (like around U8130, PM_RSMRST_L etc).

CPU VCore could still be a concern even with fan spinning. In any case we only have measurements of irrelevant power rails…

I have checked all other major power rails as per logi.wiki. All others are fine .
