    Look, what i've found in the schematics of a ASUS GX531GS. Same charging IC and this extended ACDRV circuit. Maybe i'm wrong, but if this is a faulty diode, you should get ACDRV back as soon as you have removed it.

    Everything looks normal, except ACDRV not coming up. Since this component connects to ACDRV line i strongly suspect it to be the culprit here.
    Are you able to trace where else it connects to?

    You're injecting into the low-side mosfet of GPU_Core, where one side is indeed GND and the load side "appears" as GND, because it is the GPU_CORE rail, so very low Ohms reading expected. This is absolutely normal and you're trying to kill the GPU right now.

    So please just stop with what you're doing. You're on the best way to destroy the board. I didn't had time to check your measurements. I'll do it later, asap.

    Injected 1V2A on the Source pad, nothing got hot on the thermal image.

    Found this mosfet (source) shorting to ground now, pretty sure it didn't before though
    Should I remove and measure it?

    It sits under the GPU.

    EDIT: Removed mosfet, short is still present on Source pad.

    My suggestion would be to check both mosfets again a) for internal short and b) for unexpected short to GND at either Source, Drain or Gate. Without power of course.
    Then a updated voltage measurement of the charging controller would be nice, Pin 4, 5, 6, 24, 28. Then remove power and switch to beep mode. Check any of the 28 pins for unexpected short to GND.

    Then report back here

    First I found a couple shorted caps around the BIOS chip (2 Ohm), removed it, but the short was still present. I resoldered it and injected 1V1A at one of the shorted caps, and saw the EC IC get hot. Removed the EC and found the short was gone. Ordered a new EC IC and soldered it, short was still gone.

    Installed the board again, but still no sign of life.

    I then replaced the BQ IC, still no life. I replaced the second DC-In mosfet, still no life.

    That is pretty much what I have done.

    Just got back from work, the RTCBAT pin measures 0V. I don't know if this is due to the laptop using the main battery as a RTC battery, but the port is left unused on these models.

    I appreciate all the help I can get, I'm still very much a newbie and do this occasionally in my spare time.

    The charging IC has since been aligned properly, but rest assured, I did check all the pins for bridges and connection before posting any readings.

    In regards to the 200 Ohm mosfet, I did point it out to see if this could be a culprit, but honestly have no clue on how to troubleshoot it, other than thinking "This seems wrong" and posting it.

    At the risk of being the bad guy again, I can not ignore how much effort people like mon2 and others already invested here.

    In the picture of Post #34, the Charging controller is in my opinion not aligned properly.

    Hello.
    Have this Asus UX433FAC that came with shorted mosfet on main power rail. After replace laptop works ok, but battery is dead. Laptop show charging but voltage on battery is 0.2V. when remove battery voltage on battery connector goes to 8.5V, but when connect battery again it goes down to 0.2V.

    can that short shorted battery? batmon show that battery is full at 80%

    I'm trying to see if someone could help me with my Asus Zenbook 13 UX 333F with given symptoms that I've experience during a recent external short.

    During last laptop charge, as I was moving the DC power supply, I caused the two leads (+ -) to touch. After that event the laptop stopped charging and pulling amps form the power supply.     I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
    So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
    I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
