Can anyone help with a fixed BIOS? The laptop shows black screen, and fans come on and off.

Alright, back on this after a couple other projects.
I've done measurements, and all voltages are present.
The only voltage that seems weird is a 8V on one of the coils, this however lowers to 0.2V, so I am guessing memory?
I've soldered the old EC IC back on, and I get the same symptoms. The machine "turns" on, but no output on HDMI or on a USB to HDMI adaptor.
Tried removing RAM, still same issue. Flashed BIOS with one I found on here, same issue.
The CPU and GPU gets hot, and fans spin up, and turn off after a couple seconds.

Hi again,
Does anyone have a shot of the EC area? I replaced the EC, but managed to knock a cap around, and I am not sure where it belongs.
I've marked the cap in this picture.
I have a boardview of rev 1.4, but it doesn't look the same as my rev 1.6 board in this area
EDIT: I had the cap oriented wrong. Moved it to the correct location, but I get no life from the board with the new EC.
I wouldn't think they needed external flashing on these ASUS boards....Last edited by jacobtc; 01-03-2026, 05:08 PM.Leave a comment:

The previous users seems to have replaced the liquid metal with a bottle of thermal paste (there were so much plastered all over the board!).
The CPU die looked like it had a tiny mark, but not anything out of the usual.
CPU and GPU seems to get hot, and fans are spinning as expected.
The weird thing is that it boots when power in plugged in, is this normal when battery is unplugged?
Could this be an EC fault?
EDIT: Did some measurement around the dying mosfet (PQH8602)

Another ASUS GA401QM - Almost alive?
Got this GA401QM (Zephyrus G14) which turns on to a black screen and keyboard backlight. No output on screen or HDMI. Caps lock is not responding.
I already did a BIOS flash in hopes it was an easy fix, but no luck.
I then found a mosfet (PQH8602) with a shorted gate (diode reading of 0.05). Replaced it with a new, and gate were now reading 0.5. Thought it would be fixed, but no. Turned the machine on, and same symptoms as before. I checked the mosfet again, and the gate was now shorted again!
Something is killing the mosfet it seems. It is part of the DDR Voltage regulator... -
Took a leap of faith and purchased the IC from the aforementioned shop. I have researched this a bit now, and it seems like the A2681 model don't care about where the IC comes from. https://repair.wiki/w/Apple_ACE2_Controllers

Just found this website saying that replacing UF500 with a new one from Aliexpress works right away: https://repair.wiki/w/Apple_ACE2_Controllers
Is there a difference between the boards, even though they use the same IC (CD3217)?...Leave a comment:

I currently dont have a donor board. Is it not possible to buy from Aliexpress? I see them from known good vendors? Like https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...3A-29919%3Bd%3...

Macbook Air A2681 Board 820-02536 No Power - 5V 0.15A
Got this M2 Air, which only takes 5V 0.15A, and no power. I checked and saw that the CD3217B13 charging IC is getting hot, but nothing else. Board looks immaculate, with no signs of spills or drops.
First time working on a Macbook, so could use some advice. Do the charging IC's go bad on these, or is something else making it draw that power?
Also, tried plugging it in to the second port, and the same IC got hot. Both ports seems to have this IC, UF500 and UF400 on boardview.
EDIT: Just measured the fuses right beside both charging IC's. When plugged in to...Last edited by jacobtc; 12-04-2025, 12:10 PM. -
LG C1 65'' dead standby
I've owned this C1 from new since late 2021, and it has now suddenly started with the following symptom:
If power has been connected for a while, the red standby lamp turns off, and the tv wont turn on (no reaction from remote or button on tv).
If power has been disconnected for 5 minutes, the tv turns on fine, until turned off and left for a couple minutes, as the standby light will then turn off again.
I've seached and found that this is most likely a failing PSU, and I've seen repair services on eBay fixing these symptoms, so I am hoping that someone here has fixed... -
Re: PS5 Digital turns on shortly, then off.
All these voltages show good as well. I removed the foam and cleaned all liquid metal and thoroughly checked and cleaned everything on the board.
Has no one had this problem before? Could it be a corrupt BIOS or a southbridge? I just find it weird that it worked first time when I received it, but has not booted since....Leave a comment:

PS5 Digital turns on shortly, then off.
I have a PS5 digital which shortly turns on (beep, blue light) then off after a second. I measured main rail and no short. All standby voltages are there, taken from here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...5Swp5K-NgStDgl
Connecting 12V, it draws 300mAh in the first 3 seconds, then 0mAh
SSD controller warms slightly when turning on, else nothing
Seller described it as intermittent, as it only rarely would turn on. When I received it, it turned in first try, but after turning it off, the symptoms started, and it has not been able to turn... -
RTX3080 shorted 12V - How to proceed?
I received this RTX3080 with a clear short on one of the 12V inputs. The PSU goes into protection mode, and simply clicks when turned on (My friend told me that).
I tried injecting 1v 3a at the shorted side, but nothing gets hot as these boards are crazy thick. I don't wanna damage the GPU, so I'm currently considering removing the mosfets one by one and checking, but as they are right up against alu caps, it will be risky, as they need crazy heat to remove.
I sadly do not own a ESR meter so my Fluke 189 struggles telling the resistance difference between the mosfets....
