    ps5 shorted after buck converter

    Hi.all.
    Working on a PS5 EDM-010 motherboard and i've located a short after the TLV62090RGTR 5v to 3.3v chip directly behind F7002.same chip i think. I've removed the chip thinking that was the problem but the short is still there.I injected 1v at 1 amp on output coil (arrowed in picture) but nothing shows up on my thermal camera. No boardview so I because I dont know which rail it feeds i'm reluctant to up the power injection.I could use some help with this if anone has any ideas. Click image for larger version

    This rail goes to WiFi/BT module. Check there.

      Thanks ofr the help Manieq.
      There are ten caps on the underside.I've been advised to remove them one at a time to see if it clears the short.I'll report back on my progress. Click image for larger version

        Basically, the chip in the module itself dies, just like in PS4, PS3.
        It is powered by 3.3V and 1.8V.​

          Thanks for the input lotas,Just removed all the shorted caps uner the ic (see picture) all 10Uf. removed the two 22uf caps near the inductor also but still shorted.Looks like its the Wifi chip itself, Is there any way to test it.

            Remove the Wi-fi module and check whether the short connection disappears or not.

              Just to update,I managed to remove the shield on the wifi chip and was the able to see the short was indeed on the ic.Sent for replacement so should soon be up and running.Unfortunately I managed to lose one of the two 22uf caps on the output side.Just wondering what voltage they are.

                As I said, the problem will be in the chip, you shouldn’t have soldered these capacitors. Install any capacitors, the voltage on them is only 3.3v and 1.8v.

                    Back again.
                    I'm a little confused!!
                    Can somone please confirm what voltage should be going to the wifi chip from that buck converter. i've been looking at a youtube vid by ToltecMerc ( #163 Repair of PS5 EDM-020 Rather Dead) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkcbiPyDdsE&t=5s .
                    At 15.10mins he uses a good EDM-010 board to check the output on that inductor and he gets reading of 1.8v which makes sense.I get 3.3v which using continuity seems to feed straight to the 1.8v caps behind the wifi chip.
                    Am I using the correct ic TLV62090RGTR 5v to 3.3v or is there a different chip that steps down to 1.8v?
                    Please help a desperate man.

                      The output voltage on the TLV62090RGTR is set by a divider consisting of resistors R1 and R2.

                            Thanks for pointed them out.They read good.
                            Struggling to find the 500k shown on the diagram. If thats ok it must be something to do with chip.

                              Yes, just install a new chip, and it will output the correct voltage, which will be set by its divider (R1+R2).
