Yes you will very likely have to program it again.
You MIGHT be able to get one pre-programmed, but I don't think you will, unless you take it out of another similar unit that had a different failure.Muh-soggy-kneeComment

Re: Pc PIC16F877A-I/P DIP-40
They don't usually get unprogrammed, flash memory inside has very long retention (decades).
It's possible the chip could be damaged if something connected to it failed, but otherwise they shouldn't just fail all of the sudden.
It's most likely the internal memory is protected (you can't read the hex data from it) so even if you buy a spare mcu or request one as a sample (it's old, almost obsolete so made in small quantity, therefore expensive) you'd still need the code to upload in it and a programmer.
I have a programmer and I could flash one for you but again.. you need the code in the first place.Comment

Re: Pc PIC16F877A-I/P DIP-40
I don't want to check again, but it was about 5-6 dollars on microchip's own site. It's 6$ on Digikey: http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...%2FP-ND/446143
They don't even recommend this one for new designs, the 887 is recommended.. which has very minor differences and costs only 2.65$ on Digikey.
You can get more powerful PIC chips for that money, for example you can get pic18f4321 at 3.2$ when getting 10, or 3$ when getting 25.
With 3.4$ (10 quantity) you get get pic18f4550 with usb support, 48mhz, the works... much more powerful and more user friendly (better architecture for C)Last edited by mariushm; 04-28-2014, 09:22 PM.Comment

Check the obvious - does the PIC have all the power supplies present and correct? If it has a crystal or other clock source check that its functioning."Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

by conghuymsI have a Dell G7 motherboard, model LA-E993P DDK51, which has lost the +3VALW power rail. Upon inspection, I found that the EC, model MEC1416-NU, is shorted. I need to replace it with a new chip, but I am not sure whether the new EC needs to be reprogrammed. Please help me. Thank you very much...

by Donny2derbyHi all. Hoping someone can help. There is an oil filled heater at work that is not running. The pump that fires the oil is not kicking in.
I've taken the PCB out the panel and found a board that is marked IPD-0018-E
It's receiving 230v ac and the output relay has 5v DC present. The various diodes and resistors etc all check out ok. The only thing seemingly left is the IC labelled as PIC 16F1937.
My question would be. How would I know this is the component causing the issue/how do I test? And should I simply order one and replace it? Or does it need programming... -
by pcservisedHello guys,
Wondering if someone know - EC MEC1723 (on new Lenovo series) - is it programmable? Which programmer could be used? RT809F can handle it? If not, any other can?
I did not find any useful information on the internet. I will appericiate any help.
thanks a lot...11-29-2023, 12:02 PM -
by makar303Hello. I'm experiencing an issue with my Aorus 15p xc laptop.
The motherboard is GA-RX5LXC.
The problem I'm encountering is that the laptop sometimes fails to power on, and it appears that a protective mechanism is being triggered.
I've observed that while the laptop is in operation, the EDP_U8 microchip (I've included a photo) heats up significantly, reaching temperatures of 75-80 degrees Celsius.
However, when I disconnect the LCD from the motherboard, the EDP_U8 microchip doesn't heat up. I've conducted power supply measurements with the screen disconnected.... -
Hi
Hopefully this went in the correct forum.
Going through my junk I found whatever this thing is (see attachments).
I do not what exactly it is, my guess is either some ethernet appliance or a garage door opener.
Got it from germany, so maybe that'll help with something.
It has:
A hahn Prim transformer (with 2x9VA and 2x5VA outputs, 230V input)
A diode rectifier connected to the outputs of said transformer
PIC16F628X-20/P
Philips TDA85521
