I've been browsing these forums and hit a wall on my recent project. I'm requesting Absolute/computrace to be disabled in my bios, I purchased this computer online.
This is my first time doing this, but I made it far. I'm more curious in knowing what I did wrong to learn vs. just having working bios reuploaded. This is the first time I worked with a CH341a programmer.
Dell Optiplex Micro 7010
Service Tag: 27BH2Z3
Motherboard: D3V3H (I think?)
I successfully extracted both the 16mb bios and the 32mb bios from each chip. I then followed the guides that indicated by finding the text string "abtState" would lead me to the hex code that needs to be edited from "AA553F" to "AA553C". I performed this edit, then wiped the 32mb bios chip and uploaded the new bios. When I went into the bios (at least it didn't brick it!") I still saw that it was enabled.
Some other posts indicate something like a service tag prompt should have appeared, was there additional edits I need to perform in order to disable Absolute/Computrace outside of the hex code?
It also appears this hex code was only in the 32mb bios, so I did not upload or change the 16mb bios after I realized this and only modified the 32mb ones.
Any help with learning /explanation will be greatly appreciated. I'm uploading the original two dumps and the modified dump where I attempted to disable it myself without any luck.
post merged..next time look for a thread with the name and model, motherboard model of the laptop, and post there, if you can't find it, then make a new thread..
One is the attempted modification of the 32mb bios.
1st thing: did Trump change your country name in "Cananda"?
2nd: with your modification you should be able to check " Disable" or "Permanently Disabled" then hit "Apply"
If not, try this file:
Ha! I was typing while tired and created a new country - thanks for catching that.
Thank you, I attempted to write the file you uploaded. Same issue, it does not prompt me to enter a service tag and once i'm in the bios the Absolute is all grayed out still with "Enable Absolute" selected.
Any other thoughts on this? Can you tell me what else you changed?
I'm wondering if this is what needs to be performed in my file. hoaca388 i'm stuck on my file. What text string did you search to find the offsets to put the bios into manufacturing mode when uploaded? I modified the "abtState" value and uploaded but still grayed out.

hoaca388 - These worked! I'm very interested in learning the steps you took to modify these if you're willing to share.
Can you tell me what you changed to enable manufacturing mode?
Did you use my original files to perform the edits or are these unique / new bios?
Any other changes you made?
Really interested in learning what text strings you used to then identify in Hex where the changes had to be made to the .bin files.
It looks like you had to modify both files in my case.
######### Documentation for Others #############
For anyone else reading that's newer like myself, these are the steps I took after hoaca388 saved the day with the .bin file edits.
1. Upload bios to respective chip (in my case the 16mb and 32mb one). I used Neo programmer, checked for detection, and enabled every option on the write (Off protect, Blank Check, verify, write, erase).
2. After each upload, perform a read and compare to the files uploaded, ensure a match in HxD software using the "Analyses feature"
3. I put the CR2032 battery back into the motherboard once all clips removed (i still have microwires on my secondary 32mb chip, but wasn't a problem)
4. I turned the system on, it went through a couple of false starts, maybe two where the fan spun and it turned back off. On the third time the message appeared for "Manufacturing Mode". This allowed me to go into the bios and type the service tag I had saved in. Before exiting (after typing the service tag and hitting agree on warnings) I was able to go to the security section and click the now ungrayed "Absolute" section, checking "permanently disabled". I accepted every warning, rebooted and confirmed it is 100% disabled in the bios after a reboot,.

_Yes, I did use your file when edit ,since the file on dell home page has up to 4 bios versions, i don't know which version yours belongs to.
_I Clear ME your file, why, because of Service Tag, then VSS2, it needs to be cleaned. Finally put it into Program mode.
