    Dead Rx480

I have an old RX480 i trying to get going,
It has a ground on the two main fuses.
Causing this i believe it is the IR 3553M C610P 3RR3 chip
Watching this video helped, its the same fault https://youtu.be/R8zXFcxyWc0
    I also need a 5KW20 270 16V capacitor
I am unable to locate these to buy, and have no idea how to remove the IR3553M chip. i just cant seem to melt any solder on the board, tried x3 irons
I attached some picture of required parts.
    Thanks

    Re: Dead Rx480

Hi, about soldering and desoldering in graphics cards, they are made to disipate a lot of heat, so with a normal iron will be not enough, you will need, of course a hot air station, for soldering those kind of multi-leg ics, and still maybe not enugh, since the are soldered with solder without Pb (lead), wich needs more heat to become liquid.

The best option I use is a hot-bed, they are cheap and are selled in aliexpress for about 10$, you put the card on it, heat the card and it helps a lot to desolder the factory solder.

Ill put a link to the one I bought, but I dont know if it will be spam, so if needed PM me.

    Hope it helps

Edit: Of course you will need a good flux for soldering and a good solder too

      Hello,
I have ordered a hot air soldering iron and a hot bed (thanks foshland)
Just not sure if i can use these chips and caps
      the cap is a 5KW20 270 16V and the IR is 3553M C610P 3RR3

AliExpress said to use this IR IR3553M IR3553MPBF IR3553MTRPBF PQFN-25 New Original Genuine IC Chip

      I found this Cap 16V270UF 8x8

Will these be ok to use.

      Thanks

Just wondering, why do you think you need a new capacitor?

            Okay then.

16V 270uF is are the values. So look for those, ignore other numbers.
Package size and low ESR would be the next things to look at.

The chip is indeed IR3553M so ignore other numbers.

Yup, these chips can be a pain. Usually I don't use a preheater for GPU-s but for these chips, it's best to use one.

I removed four IR chips and tested for ground after each one, the ground disappeared after removing the fourth chip.
Then i noticed a tiny resistor or fuse had come off next to one, ill post a pic, if anyone can let me know what it is that would be great.
Thanks for your reply's so far.

Hi, what make and specific model is your card? for looking for a board diagram or boardview, it would help.

As you can see, all the IR3553M has a similar capacitor, and if you like electronics, its the time to get a capacitance meter (Ali is your friend), so you can meassure the others one and buy a bunch of them similar size and capacity very cheap. But if you find or tell a model of the board maybe there is a schematics telling you all the data needed for ordering just the capacitor.

                      Hello,
                      Its a Sapphire Nitro RX480 8Gig,
Its been sitting in the cupboard for a couple of years,
It died and was one month out of warranty, they wouldn't cover it.
Ali is good but the postage is sooo sloow, the capacitors i ordered are arriving end of February.

May I ask what kind of pre-heater you bought? I can't find any for $10.
If you can't use a link here then a search word for aliexpress would be good.
                        Thanks.

                              Hello,

I replaced the IR3353 chips and the two blown fuses
                              All grounds were gone.
I plugged it in and all the fuses blew and x3 IR chips went to ground.
I replaced the 3 IR chips and blown fuses, no grounds again.
plugged it in again and the IR chips were arcing, didn't blow any fuses.

Any ides, ill link a video i took.

Even the spot that has no IR chip is Arcing.
and yes the bottom cap is just temp..

                                  Have you check 3567 before?
3567 control 4x3553, and you have only 3 blowed.

So my friend was visiting and he wanted to use my solder bench to solder on some WLED circuit board. My laptop was open on the side for RAM upgrade. I know my mistake.

So while soldering he had too much solder on the soldering iron tip and he just shook off the soldering iron on the table itself to remove extra solder on the soldering tip and it landed on the motherboard of laptop. He then out of fear tried to remove it using solder wick and did more damage by removing some components as well. So here I am with weird situation.

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...
