GPU-Z Perfcap with crippled VCore phase

I have a GTX 970 with 6 phases for VCore. I rebuilt the VRM's, but had to use different MOSFET's. Also 2 of the 6 inductors were replaced: should be R33, but I only had R22.
The card works. Each of the 6 phases work (tested with oscilloscope).
But still GPU-Z shows the card being capped for Perfcap reason Pwr at ~60%.
    1. Could that mean that the VRM is still somehow not delivering entirely what is needed ?
    2. I can't imagine the "smaller" inductors (less uH) would be the cause. Or am I totally wrong ?

Importantly. The inductance just cannot be changed. Many parameters are frequency, resistance, saturation.
    XL = 2pfL
R33 = 330 nH 3 mΩ here the current will be low
R22 = 220 nH 0.9 mΩ - here the current will be hight!!!

Ok I had no idea, so I will try finding the right parts.
      Thank you very much !

What was wrong with the original R33 inductors? It is really odd for inductors to fail.

I had a hard time getting them off (with my poor soldering skills) and they got damaged.
I wanted to separate the phases. That was before I got my oscilloscope...

Price to pay when learning something new, I guess...

Ok I found similar inductors on a donor card and put them on.
Result is slightly better: still hitting PerfCap Pwr, but now around 70% TDP.

But I think the main problem is something else: Looking at the replacement MOSFET's datasheet again - altough the specs looked similar at first sight - I found out the pulsed drain current of the original MOSFET's was far higher than the ones I'm using now.

So ... more desoldering and soldering to do.

Re: GPU-Z Perfcap with crippled VCore phase

Oddly, that had almost no effect.
In GPU-Z I notice the power draw on the 8-pin connector does not get higher than 60W (card only has one 8-pin). This should be higher, since 4 (or 5? ) phases get their 12V from it.
When stressed, the reported voltage does not seem to drop very much neither. So the power is available, but the card doesn't draw it.

Makes me wonder: could the shunt resistor be bad and as such limiting the current the cards draw ?

Well now the problem has in fact changed: Measuring for PWM signals once more, I noticed I now have a doubler (IR3598) that's gone bad. Maybe because of the heat of all the MJ (MOSFET Jockying :p).

That of course takes out 2 phases 4 out of 6 phases or 4/6 = 66%
And that's about the TDP I get!

                  LOL!

This may be "phantom power throttling syndrome", which I saw before, was caused by a wrong/corrupted VBIOS. I know that can happen with Kepler, the gen right before Maxwell, IIRC.
Had that VBIOS issue with an eVGA GeForce GTX 660 Ti back in 2016. I found out that it had an Asus VBIOS! Then not too long after, it was to TechPowerUp I go! Found a proper eVGA VBIOS.

Help disabling a vcore phase on a MSI X570 Carbon - I have schematics + boardview
                    by SavaBogdan
                    Hello.
Does anyone have any experience with disabling a power phase on the CPU vrm?
The controller is IR35201 6+2 phases. It only uses 5 phases and the pins for pwm and feedback on the 6'th phase are not populated (no traces).
I got the board with a burned mosfet which I removed along with a part of the pcb. I dremelled away the short as best I could and the board started up fine without the vrm heatsink.
I then put some sealant and left it for two days to completely dry. I suspect the pressure from the thermal pads on the heatsink compressed the layers so when I started...

Apple 820-3662 VCore shorted to ground.
                    by barry101
                    Hi, Would appreciate some help.
I have an Apple Late 2013 15" A1398 MacBook Pro with Logic Board 820-3662.
Get charger light but no fan spin or chime. No liquid damage.
Found PPBUS and VCORE both shorted to ground. Other rails were ok.
Removed VCORE MOSFETS U7310, U7320 and U7330. Found U7330 was in fact shorted.
With the 3 MOSFETS removed, get PPBUS and fan spin. VCORE is still hard shorted to ground (0 ohms).
Attempted voltage insertion on VCORE to locate short using bench supply set at 1.0 VDC and 4.95 Amps (max current for my...

                    Asus P4C800-E VRM issues
                    by c_corr
This board had the initial fault in VRM with high side Mosfet from PWM1 (phase 1) getting very hot. It also had the VRM caps quicly heating up in 10-15 seconds after power on.

This board uses mext ICs and Mosfets in VRM:
                    - ADP3180 PWM controller - in 3 phase mode
                    - ADP3418 as Modfet drivers
                    - High side Mosfets STD38NH02L (from ST)
                    - Low side Mosfets STD90NH02L

Some of the symptoms were very similar with the "Dead Asus P5P800-VM" in this forum.
I had the sawtooth voltage on Vcore too this was probably the cause of the Vcore caps...

CPU vcore missing in HP workstation Z2 Mini 4G
                    by Francisco.s
Hi, have a HP workstation Z2 Mini 4G for repair with CPU vcore missing.

The resistance at the output of CPU vcore coils, is less than one ohm so I think CPU could be damaged, but no mosfet are damaged.
It mounts an i7 8th gen, and have only i5 7th gen for test, but I think it is not compatible.

Without CPU in the socket there is no short, but there is no vcore voltag, and it emits a beep like no detecting ram.

The controller chip for cpu vcore is a MP2949A, and has no enable voltage at pin 37.

I wonder which circuit generates this enable...

Rx580 8gb sapphire nitro+ turn off vcore randomly
                    by mikzs
Hello, this is my first post, English is not my native language but I hope you understand me. I recently got a 580 that didn't turn on the typical short mosfet, as I didn't know exactly which one was short, I unsoldered them until I got the bad one out, I was able to remove the short and identify the bad mosfet, the gpu gives video again! but it has a problem that completely turns off vcore at random times or if I try to put a load on the gpu vcore drops to 0 I don't have much idea why because I don't know much about sapphire, any advice on where I could start looking or what problem it could...
