Re: MSI GTX1070 design fault?
Ok so there are a few variants for that IC, maybe it is more similar to uP9510 . That one accepts upto 15V on PVCC.Re: MSI GTX1070 design fault?

I'm not sure what you're asking. Could you rephrase?...

Re: MSI GTX1070 design fault?
You're right. How did I miss that?!
edit: Pinout however seems to match typical application circuit of uP1642P. So still useful because I can't find a datasheet for the uP1641P....Last edited by didi79; 02-05-2023, 09:28 AM.

MSI GTX1070 design fault?
Hi I'm working on a MSI GTX1070 Gaming 8G. Vmem is missing. Strange enough the card otherwise is working: All other voltages are there and the card is even detected. Obviously no image output because of "missing" memory.

This is a picture of the uP1642P. It controls the memory voltage rail. Primary suspect of the fault.
Datasheet uP1642P
Pin 21 PVCC should be 5V. Datasheet says 6.5V max.
But on this card it is...

Re: Msi gtx 1060
Still not detected. I will have a look wether the card actually tries to read the chip, using oscilloscope.

Re: Msi gtx 1060
Adapter is in. BIOS chip is readable, but I suspect some garbage content.
Now I have to find the BIOS dump... Techpowerup does not seem to have one for this particular model: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?architecture=NVIDIA&manufacturer=MSI&model=GTX+1060&version=&interface=&memType=&memSize=3072&since=
I'll try with a similar one (eg https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/192797/msi-gtx1060-3072-161223) since the clocks pretty much seem the same and it also supports Samsung memory...

Re: GTX 1060 MATS results?
So, I reflowed the ram chips. On the modules I had not touched earlier, solder balls escaped from under the modules when I nudged them. That's not good.
And obviously I now have shorts on ram. Clearly I will not power the board ;-)
So I will go ahead and reball all the chips anyway when I find more time (remove 6 chips, clean them and the pcb, reball the chips and put them back... with my novice skills and tools that may take a few hours...)
Still, this was not entirely useless I tend to think: I may have identified...

Does it detect as a secondary card?

Re: GTX 1060 MATS results?
Resistance is ok. Card probably would not start if there was a short.
Thank you for suggestion to reflow first, takes less time than a reball. I will post back when I get to it.

Re: GTX 1060 MATS results?
While replacing the memory chips, I seem to have blown away a cap near A0. Found the cap by doing another visual inspection, it was stuck in some residue flux...
It's on of many FBVDD decloupling caps, so it really should not make a big difference. Last report still doesn't make any sense in that regard.
But I put the cap back anyway. Ran a new test and now report is different again

Re: Asus 1660 super with blown mosfet, help needed to identify pads and a capacitor
5V is usually a simple LDO, no fancy circuit around it.
No point in guessing since you almost have no voltages. Find a schematic/boardview to know what you're looking at and to know whether it is even important.
Stop poking around to find voltages. Don't even consider powering the card again! You really should focus on finding the short first before anything else.

Re: Help me Sapphire rx470
PWM pin is necessary. You should be able to eliminate to what pin on the PWM controller it goes. If you can recreate the pad, you can connect it. Not easy, but doable....Last edited by didi79; 05-21-2022, 03:15 AM.

GTX 1060 MATS results?
MATS diagnosed faulty memory on banks A0 and A1 on a MSI GTX 1060 Armor 6G. I replaced them (from another 1060 donor).
No more errors on A0 and A1, but now MATS gives me write errors on all the other banks:

Check this:
That looks almost identical to yours.
