Abit BP6 with bad coils

Hello
I've got an Abit BP6 mainboard.

The bad caps have been replaced (I've replaced all caps, even those one, which seem to look okay)

The problem is, that there's a coil on position C17 which looks burned. I also want to replace it, but I don't know, where I can get it.
Can anybody tell me, where I can get such a coil ?
It has 7 windings.

If you can find a scrap BP6, thats your best bet. If not, get some wire the same gauge and rewind them by hand. Unwind the old wire and cut the new wire the same length as the old wire.

and make sure your VRMs aren't toasted. might have been a good idea to check before recapping, if you're not into replacing lots of parts, or the possibility of the northbridge and other fun things being fried. and when testing, don't put in a CPU you'd like to ever use again.

Thanks for your reply. The problem is that the metalic core of the coil is burned and splintered.

I have an electronic store here in my city, but I do not know, which information they need, so that I would get the same or a similar metalic core, so that I could handicraft a "new" coil.

Any idea ?

Have you tried contacting Abit Technical Support? You already know which component number, and how many turns on the coil. You'll need someone with detailed technical knowledge of the board.

You need to find out what the core is - mfr, P/N, and crossovers. There are several different technologies that the core could be (e.g. powdered iron, metglas, Kool-Mu (tm of Magnetics Inc.), molypermalloy powder). You need the right type to get the proper inductance and core loss characteristic. Avoid using an el cheapo core, it could destroy itself, the caps, and more.

Yes, I've contacted abit.
They told me, that they do not have any replacement parts and that they can't give me any specification info of the faulty component, since this mainboard is too old and they do not have any longer the spec papers. (very surprising)
