    Another Gigabyte with bad Chemicon

This pair of KZG 3300uf 6.3v swelling at the top, next to the heatsink on a GA-8SIMLH

Shouldn't have been too hot though, was only a Celeron 2000 running stock standard

Other smaller KZG, further away from the heatsink, show no problems

Replaced by salvaged Panasonic FJ, verified OK on Dick Smith ESR meter

Replace the others KZGs. they can fail without showing it.

I don't think KZG need huge amounts of heat to go.
They just tend to go where it's hot first.
And, the older they are the worse they are going to be about it.

Even the best electrolytic capacitors are not immune from failure... the designer must have used capacitors which were good, but not rated for the design.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

No, KZG are failure prone, especially around the CPU area where it is hot. I'd rate them above GSC and Fuhjyyu, but below Teapo and OST.

so what are you suggesting, that such design deserves some other capacitance value, and if so, which one?

if that argumnet doesn't stand, then you have no argument.

ie it's just crappy japanese capacitor crapping out, just like c_hegge said.
              heh

(i love the twist where it's not just taiwanese and chinese that are making crappy caps)

I see alot of good designs destroyed because the guy making the final call wants to save 15c a board and forces the designer to use cheaper parts.

                    Yup, and you know what.
They probably eat it anyway later on dealing with more RMA's.

                        by DynaxSC
                        Hi,

I discovered a strange behaviour of GIGABYTE GA-H110M-S2 board.

                        General test conditions:
                        - Tested with Core i5 6500 and Core I7 6700K - no difference
                        - Default BIOS settings, but tried also altering several memory setting - does not change anything

                        What is wrong:

With BIOS F1 and F2 the board normally POST's and boots to Windows 11 with 2 x Patriot Viper Steel PVS416G440C9K RAM (4400MHZ, Samsung B-Die chips)

When BIOS upgraded to anything above F2 (ie. F20-F27b) the board POST stucks after 3 Debug Codes on Code C2
                        ...

Metod for removing glued heatsink from fragile component
                        by harp
I have peltir element glued to heatsink with something thick and sticky like putty... it cant be separate with force or heat without risk of breaking ceramic or damaged semiconductor layers due to force (eg if try twisted, pulled, lifted)... method that I am using is a single thread for needle (thin and firm thread of pure polyester that cant break with bare hands without glowes), and using it like a saw between heatsink and peltir. I holding a heatsink with knee against table. It slowly cut throug putty and release glued parts. It is slow proces, but preserve undamaged component and heatsink....
