    AMI BIOS questions

I think there may be a BIOS problem with my ASUS P5-E. I addressed this with a post in the Asus motherboard forum, but I think this may be a corrupted BIOS problem, not hardware. The board booted once and loaded the OS. Now it's stopping in the BIOS

The BIOS codes that show up on the PCI card are 85, 60 and D4(twice). This is using 1 stick of RAM and moving it from DIMM A1 to A2 to A3 to A4.

    85 is Password/soft error check (DIMM A1)
60 is DMA #1 base register test (DIMM A2)
D4 is Uncompressed RUNTIME code (DIMM B1 and B2).

85 is very close to the end of the BIOS sequence.
I could buy a replacement BIOS chip but it's worth more than the board.
Want to know if this sounds like a BIOS problem.
Are there any BIOS programmers you can buy that will work on this chip, do they require a lot of skill to use, and how do I tell what kind of BIOS chip I have.

    Thanks for your advice.

Bios Depot on Ebay sells them for $15. I got one for a SOYO board a couple of years ago after trying everything else but it didn't fix it.

Sorry the full description is P5-E VM DO. The BIOS appears to be AMI Win BIOS.
          The codes are here: http://www.bioscentral.com/postcodes/amibios.htm.

The board is here: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5EVM_DO/. There are 8 4v 680uf polys around the CPU socket. They are series TWV. They are UCC for sure. There are a number of KZE 6.3v 330uf on the board. These are non-vented type There is one of these near the Northbridge and two near the Southbridge. There is another UCC cap 16v 470uf between the PCI-E and first PCI slot. I can't see the Series ID, but given it's location maybe this one is bad. Will try to get photos tomorrow. Thanks.

            Re: AMI BIOS questions

o.k. it looks like an 8pin serial bios that is soldered in with an 8pin header next to it for programming.

so you dont replace it, you re-flash it from the connector.

You reflash it from USB. From https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5EVM_DO/

              CrashFree BIOS 3
Simply restore corrupted BIOS data from USB flash disk
The ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 allows users to restore corrupted BIOS data from a USB flash disk containing the BIOS file. This utility saves users the cost and hassle of buying a replacement BIOS chip.

Official AMIBIOS8 POST code list may be more meaningful.

Asus Chromebox CN62 - wrong chip put on BIOS reader
                  by BMCappelletti
                  Long story short:
                  - dad converted Asus Chromebox CN62 into Windows compatible, with mrchromebox BIOS, years and years ago
                  - gave the computer to his son a couple years later
                  - son now decided to revert it to Chrome OS, to sell it as original (re-writing BIOS with the backup one created by his dad)
                  - too lazy to remove the board from the case, thought a voltage regulator was the BIOS chip (you know... it has 8 legs)
(seems like the story was not that short)

He used alligator clips to read the chip. No luck reading it. Removed chip and placed on a SOC-8...

Lenovo laptop does not turn on, what does this number mean in a BIOS chip?
                  by thxd43
Hello, first of all, excuse me, I am using the translator, English is not my native language.

                  I have a Lenovo ideapad 330S - 14IKB laptop.

The tablet did not recognize me when I connected it, so I checked the device manager and I realized that there were many with the exclamation mark, so one by one I began to update their drivers until the sign disappeared of admiration, I even updated the BIOS, and the laptop rebooted normally and worked, so far so good, but the tablet still did not recognize me, I read on the internet that it could be due to a...

My pc updated bios through Windows Update and I was greeted with BLACK SCREEN WITH CPU FAN MAX SPEED. I don't think there is even a screen signal, because it triggers my monitor for a couple seconds and then the monitor turns off. I tried the other outputs as well.
                  1. I tried clearing bios, resetting bios, removed the CMOS battery, removed m.2 ssd, wifi, and ram. Still black screen with CPU fan blasting.
                  2. I tried using the Lenovo BIOS CD and BIOS USB, but neither worked. At least I couldn't get anything to work.
                  3. I could only locate two chips that look like bios chips. Could someone verify this

Acer e15-e5-576g-5762 bricked. Bios chip won't interface in AsProgrammer.
                  by inck243
Thanks for any help. The board version is DAZAARMB6E0 REV: E. The bios chip is winbond 25Q64JVSIQ1736. W25Q64JV is not available in AsProgrammer -- only BV CV FV or FW_1.8c. The chip won't interface with asProgrammer and a CH341A. When I have this chip on the board, the laptop will not post but when I plug it in to power, the blue LED lights up, also the orange when the battery is connected. When I push the power on button, keyboard backlight turns on and the fan starts briefely then turns off. But I can't do anything to program this bios chip so I bought another one.

                  The BIOS...
