    Dell Dimension E520

This one came in for regular freezing. No BSOD, just complete lockup.

I found one bulged KZG 3300/6.3 cap, so I replaced all KZG.
The VRM and many field caps are polymers.

The machine continued to show random freezing, so I checked the SMART counters and found the disk errors through the roof. Replacing the Seagate SATA with a new Caviar Black cured the freezing problem.

A Dell tech in Europe suggested using alternate SATA ports will cure the freezing issue. Evidently moving from SATA 2,3 to SATA 4,5 is working for a number of users, on the 9200 series. The E520 only has two SATA ports.

These installations use the iaStor matrix storage driver even if non-RAID.
Be sure to install the latest Chipset and MSM drivers directly from Intel, and the latest Dell BIOS.

Got a E521 in today with freezing and mouse power issues (all USB ports). It had a small 470uf 16v United Chem cap near the PCI slot swollen.

Cracked open the PSU and a mixture of Leon and Teapo caps with a few Teapo's swollen.

Interesting. If the 470uF is bad, it makes one seriously wonder if the rest of the VRM is ready to fail. The bad PSU probably spread its ill-will all over the board.

Interesting. Our school's machine shop has all dimension E521's, and they have all Sanyo, rubycon, and UCC KZJ. The power supplies are AcBel's, so they might have some bad OST's or teapos in them.

*edit* Interesting. I didn't notice bgavin also put interesting at the beginning of his post.

the only dell psu i saw with bloated teapo was one hit by lightning while running. i had a liteon made one mysteriously fail on me for some reason. no bad caps. ltec, ost, and teapo everywhere, elite primary caps. none bloated. i gutted it for fan and wire. plugs wew good for my delta 350w mod i did.

i just rebuilt the guts of a e5 something.
all the caps in the psu were ost and all were blown.
the "connolly" mobo had a bunch of kzg blown.the blown ones were on vrm inputs only so i place blame on the power supply for that.
it got a full poly job.

KC8, is your rule of thumb with polys to cut the uF to half of the electrolytic?

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
                by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

GIGABYTE X299 AORUS ULTRA GAMING - SATA PORTS 4-7 NOT WORKING ???
                by DynaxSC
                Hi,

I have the above mentioned bord after repair, which was related to a lot of missing smd devices on the back of the board.
There were almost 20 devices missing, caps, resistors and some diodes/mosfets.
The board is generally working now, all PCIe ports are working, Windows installs normally.

However I have a problem with SATA ports 4-7 (the board has 8 SATA ports) - disks are not beeing recognized by the BIOS neither by Windows (which is usually normal in case BIOS does not recognize them).
The SATA 4-7 driver network is quite simple chipset<->buffers/drivers<->SATA...

                Dell Inspiron 7520 (Intel/AMD) LA-8241P Freezing Issue
                by FShahid
Hi I have Dell 7520 which has i7-3632QM as well as AMD 7730M Discrete Switchable GPU.

This is BACO Switchable meaning the AMD GPU can only "render" and cannot work as alone as it depends on iGPU for output.

Attached is the datasheet for LA-8241P which shares common with Inspiron 5520 and Vostro 3560. Link to Schematics: https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/...a856347d78.pdf

The laptop has worked flawlessly for last 9 years, with CPU temps never exceeding 90*C and GPU barely reaching 80*C on gaming/full load.

                Since...

Dell Dimension PSU Compatibility - B110 PSU in 4550
                by SwedishDiesel
                Howdy folks,

I've risen from the grave to ask more questions about old obsolete Dells.

I've acquired a Dell Dimension 4550 which is in need of a PSU - I've several PSUs from Dell Dimension B110s, and I'm wondering if one of them could be used. The PSUs and the 4550 use a 20-pin connector and a 4-pin connector.

The issue is, I've been told that Dell really likes using proprietary hardware, and there were concerns about damage being caused by an incompatible supply. Because of this I'm assuming it's not just a simple plug-and-play and that there's more...

Dell 7480 problem with freezing during the Windows loading process
                by MahmoudNasser
Hello everyone, I wish you a happy day.

I have a Dell Latitude 7480 laptop that has a problem with freezing during the Windows loading process. If it manages to boot up, it becomes very slow and doesn't load anything from the desktop.

The attempts that have been made to solve the problem have not yielded any results.
