• Re: Dell Inspiron 7520 (Intel/AMD) LA-8241P Freezing Issue

Thanks for all your replies, I have managed to fix it

To be honest I did a very long post for the fix on this thread but I can't seem to find it today, maybe I forgot to post the reply?

Anyways I performed the method exactly as described in this YouTube video by Nik Telio: /watch?v=FU84qGSdE-s
(I suspect my post got deleted due to sharing link so I will share just the video code)

First I removed metal bracket and protection stickers beneath the GPU die and around...

  • Re: Dell Inspiron 7520 (Intel/AMD) LA-8241P Freezing Issue

Thank you for response. I have seen that process but I want to keep it at last resort. Any other options?

I want to add that today when I powered on at Welcome screen it circle was spinning constantly but the system was already locked as tested with caps lock led not responding to press, and after few minutes the spinning circle froze, so forcefully powered off and on and went to Safe mode I noticed that AMD drivers were installed by itself, possibly during my last use it autoinstalled hence...

  • Dell Inspiron 7520 (Intel/AMD) LA-8241P Freezing Issue

Hi I have Dell 7520 which has i7-3632QM as well as AMD 7730M Discrete Switchable GPU.

This is BACO Switchable meaning the AMD GPU can only "render" and cannot work as alone as it depends on iGPU for output.

Attached is the datasheet for LA-8241P which shares common with Inspiron 5520 and Vostro 3560. Link to Schematics: https://cdn.badcaps-static.com/pdfs/787313ea671d89d7cf49d6a856347d78.pdf

The laptop has worked flawlessly for last 9 years, with CPU temps never exceeding 90*C and GPU barely reaching 80*C on gaming/full load.

  • Re: Dell 7480 LA-E132P Plz Solve late display

Not sure if I understood but I was able to have full access to EEPROM whilst in Windows and used Intel FPT tool to flash said file without any errors. Had to do the pin 1 and pin 5 jumper on audio chip at power on to achieve that. Intel Management Engine was not shown with or without pinmod in Device Manager so that's why I started following this method.

Now if I have another go replacing UC5 BIOS chip with another one I have (but that is also shown read-only so cannot set boot path to boot windows). Is there...

  • Re: Dell latitude 7480 bios

Hi, I think I did a big mistake by flashing above file without checking full motherboard revision, mine is REV : 1.0 (A00). Here is the full story below:

So basically, it took 15 seconds for each POST but it also seemed that BIOS is read-only because anything I try changing in BIOS won't save any changes, not even custom UEFI boot paths and also no connected USB shows in F12, flashing using CTRL + ESC was also failing with "Firmware failed..."

But it could still boot to windows so I did the pinmod...

  • Dell 755 Power Off Immediately After Power Button Press

I have 3 of these Dell 755 with odd problem. All of them has no apparent components failing yet when I try to power them on the amber color power light comes on for less than a second then powers off.

I have replaced power supply, CPU (I have tried several: Q6600, E5500, E4400), same issue EXCEPT that when I install Pentium 4 CPU (which doesn't belong to this model) it keeps powered on with solid amber light and solid network activity light (one board has fan spinning at medium speed, while other 2 boards with normal idle speed).

Kindly let me know what could be the issue,...

  • Re: Toshiba A300 sudden shotdown/restart

Various reasons depending on usual faults that could happen in particular model.
Like in the older HP DV5 (the silver one) one of the reason of sudden shutdown after running few seconds was due to a shorted mosfet.
But as for A300/L300, unless some physical damage, the common issue is NEC TOKIN. The common symptom is that when using charger it is unstable and crashes to blue screen, freezes when left idle, or reboots at random locations (the symptom keeps changing between these three on same laptop)

  • Re: Toshiba A300 sudden shotdown/restart

It is definately NEC Tokin that needs replacing. Had same issue with almost all L300 A300 Intel models I have seen. There is also a topic that explains how to do replacing it with solid caps instead if you don't have exact part.

  • HP G6-1189sa (DAR18DMB6D1 REV: D) No Power - schematic

Hi, I have this laptop and it wont show any signs of life. Disassembeled and the checked the boards for any physical damage there is none. This motherboard has Core i3 BGA soldered on board. When connecting charger there is slight clicking noise throughout the board.

Tried to find the short on mosfets there are none in four pin mosfets, the board slights heats around PQ48 and the silver capacitors PC207 and PC208 (both of them showing continuity of value 2) also small capacitors EC1 EC2 EC3 and PC89 (maybe more) all showing same continuity value of 2 on other side of the board...

  • Re: Hp pavilion dv6000- 6960ej

Reflowing may help in most cases like this. I have fixed such issues few times before but can't recall, but recently I had one old sony vaio intel centrino (the first one) laptop with nvidia graphics. It would keep rebooting after Windows XP logo. No obvious signs of random black screen boots or garbled display so one might think it's not hardware issue. Just reflowing it made it go to Windows normally.

  • Re: Toshiba A300 LCD Inverter

Thanks rs232killer, that works. After shorting pin 2 and 3 and powering on laptop the backlight stays on and fine. Should I keep it shorted now? I don't mind brightness setting as long as it works. Thanks again!

  • Re: Toshiba A300 LCD Inverter

Hi, thanks for the response. So what voltage value should be, especially on third pin? I tried tracing the continuity of third pin of inverter connector to the LVDS connector using multimeter but couldn't find it. I had one spare cable but I lost it.

While I find the correct pin number on LVDS connector it would be nice of you to tell me which pin number on the LVDS connector on the motherboard it corresponds to. Thanks

  • Toshiba A300 LCD Inverter

Hi, I'm trying to get backlight working on Toshiba A300 laptop. Basically the laptop comes on but no backlight on LCD screen. I have tried two screens and few spare CCFL tubes that I'm sure works. Also tried three spare inverter boards and they don't seem to do anything. However I have tried using the LCD to LED converter strip to connect and power a 15.6" LED screen and it works and the backlight coming on.

I wanted to test the voltages on the inverter input connector which is 4 pin connector. I'm getting 19.65V on first pin, second pin has 3.27V (this one is varying a randomly),...

  • Re: Asus Zenbook UX210A Notebook PC - dead usb ports

Newer Asus laptops of time when 2nd gen CPU and USB 3.0 models appeared, their USB ports won't detect (even the USB 2.0) in Windows until chipset and USB 3.0 drivers are installed. Quick way to check is to connect a USB flash drive (doesn't has to be bootable) in USB 2.0 port and go into bios at the last page (where you see Boot Override section). If the USB drive appears there then you just need to install drivers.

If it has the dedicated AMD graphics then most likely it is about to fail. You may need to replace the graphics chip. Reflowing will not help as the first batch of these boards had faulty graphics chip.

GUYS! Guess what? The backlight works normally! I just had to press the Fn+Right Arrow Key (brightness up) on laptop keyboard and the backlight came up. No image as usual. I guess that the northbridge chipset is likely faulty. The KBC chip seems to work as intended.

  • Re: Best tape for a cracked case?

You have a spare soldering iron and a spare (faulty) laptop keyboard keys? You can use the keys as plastic filler by placing and melting them using soldering iron. That comes handy for fixing broken base for the hinges brass screw points on most Acer Aspire laptops (most of you people already know about them breaking). That same can be used to repair plastic palmrest and base. You just have to do it slowly and in coats like you do for painting walls.
But first, for any cracks from exterior fill them using super glue and wait until dry, after...

It is trying to resume from hibernate file but that seems corrupted or something, so it switches off. ie. software related issue.
