      Re: MSI G45M BIOS question ?

      I tried to boot with E2140 CPU....I can see keyboard LEDs are blinking and I can press num lock on and off LED...but it's not responding to DEL key...
      Freeze on splash screen, option press "DEL" or "TAB" to see setup or see POST process....
      What's wrong with it ? BIOS corrupted or one of the hardware faulty ?
      POST 3838....MSI-7521....G45M.....

        Re: MSI G45M BIOS question ?

        im gunna have to assume this particular board uses ami bios. because i cant find anything on post code 38 on award bios boards. the bios boot screen is visible, is it not?

        anyway, ami bios post code 38 means
        Initializes different devices through DIM (Device Initialization Manager).
        Initialize different buses and perform the following functions: Boot Input Device Initialization (function 3); IPL Device Initialization (function 4); General Device Initialization (function 5). Function 3 searches for and configures PCI input devices and detects if system has standard keyboard controller. Function 4 searches for and configures all PnP and PCI boot devices. Function 5 configures all onboard peripherals that are set to an automatic configuration and configures all remaining PnP and PCI devices.

        While control is in the different functions, additional checkpoints are output to port 80h as a word value to identify the routines under execution. The low byte value indicates the main POST Code Checkpoint. The high byte is divided into two nibbles and contains two fields. The details of the high byte of these checkpoints are as follows:
        HIGH BYTE XY
        The upper nibble 'X' indicates the function number that is being executed. 'X' can be from 0 to 7.
        0 = func#0, disable all devices on the BUS concerned.
        1 = func#1, static devices initialization on the BUS concerned.
        2 = func#2, output device initialization on the BUS concerned.
        3 = func#3, input device initialization on the BUS concerned.
        4 = func#4, IPL device initialization on the BUS concerned.
        5 = func#5, general device initialization on the BUS concerned.
        6 = func#6, error reporting for the BUS concerned.
        7 = func#7, add-on ROM initialization for all BUSes.
        8 = func#8, BBS ROM initialization for all BUSes.
        The lower nibble 'Y' indicates the BUS on which the different routines are being executed. 'Y' can be from 0 to 5.
        0 = Generic DIM (Device Initialization Manager).
        1 = On-board System devices.
        2 = ISA devices.
        3 = EISA devices.
        4 = ISA PnP devices.
        5 = PCI devices.
        the board is probably hanging trying to detect an onboard device that has failed and which will not respond. could be lan chip, sound chip, usb controller etc. u have to figure it out yourself. u say the keyboard will not respond? could be this part about "Boot Input Device Initialization (function 3)" as mentioned above. if u're using a ps2 keyboard, try a usb keyboard and see what happens; if u're using a usb keyboard, try a ps2 keyboard and see what happens.

          I've tested with PS2 keyboard...it's blinking on the start and I can flip "Num lock" LED...
          which peripheral chip is failed ? how can I test it ?
          I need to see the datasheets on every chip then....
          I'll post the BOM of this board later on, may be we can predict which one is the culprit...??
          I have the schematic of this board..
          Not a problem with southbridge and northbridge I reckon....

                        Have you tried another keyboard as suggested in post #4?
                        Cleared the CMOS ?
                        Have you tried anything ? measured the voltage to the SIO ?

                              Yes I have.
                              SIO the IC you mention in post #7 You've measure the voltage going to it on the correct pin. You have searched for the data sheet ? The correct voltage and pin is clearly marked in it.

                              have you cleared the cmos ?

                                      I can not continue POST,
                                      It can display message on VGA

                                      Could it be keyboard controller ? or there's no power supply to it ? thanks

                                        Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
                                        With original bios no POST, only LED lights
                                        With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
                                        Some issues
                                        A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
                                        B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

                                        Things I tried

                                        [REQUEST] Dell G3 3579 BIOS Password & AMI Protected Range/BIOS Guard Unlock
                                        by zenius
                                        Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

                                        Hello,

                                        I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
                                        So I thought it was a Bios problem.
                                        I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....
