      I agree.
There should be better grade caps on the CPU (<6.3v) side of the VRM.
Especially as the count is only 7.

I've seen HD grade caps (ZL, KZE) used on the '16v side' of the VRM but not on the 6.3v side.
      - Um, come to think, I have one out in the shop right now.
[ pause, run, look, run, pant pant ]

It's a FIC VC37-L with an eMachines BIOS. - Three Ruby ZL on the 16v side of VRM.

Have we discovered a trend here?

I thought ZL was an excellent choice for the 16v side...

Is usually okay there but this board only has 3 caps on 16v side.
I'd rather see better caps or more caps there on a P4 board.
It should do fine,, as long as it never gets attached to a crap PSU.

Please offer up a superior choice to ZL for 16v input side. I need to understand what is the premium cap for this use.

err... look at the socket.. it says "Socket 754" -> AMD Athlon64

edit: doh! or look at the thread-title

Actually it says "fic 754 board" and I thought that was the model.
                I don't do AMD.

Oh, and the FIC VC37-L, the board I was talking about in that post, is a P4 board.

                      Re: emachines fic 754 board.WTF?

My understanding is thats there purpose in Life of the ZL series
                      for use in PSU's, switchers.
They may not be of the highest order.
(for use in last design pre polly VRM output, MBZ MCZ much more applicable as you know)

With the VRM Input I think its ok to use a slightly lesser grade and often this is the case
They still get a punishing but not to the same extent as the outputs do.

Anyway that the story as I understand it.

                      Hope I got it right

                      Cheers

Starfury1. About right the ZL series has higher ESR. BUT has longer life. Because the VRM input is a higher voltage 5 or 12V the ESR can be higher ie load resistance in that part of the circuit is less than at VRM out. So if you think in terms of keeping ESR to load R ratio the same it may be clearer. Is it?

I used ZL in a 8RDA+ VRM input because they were sitting right on the MOSFETs running quite hot, so a long life cap was needed to get a reasonable life.
