Bad news, it looks like my Soyo SY-K7VTA-B finally has a bad cap!

It looks like the Wendell 1500 uF cap next to the ATX power connector clip is bulging!

But, they were doing fine for at least 6 years.

Most of the cap brands that made it on the bad cap list wouldn't last this long.

But, my Soyo SY-K7VTA-B has been through unstable power, because where I used to be, blackouts and brownouts were common, because of the diesel generator they had.

Also, it used to be hooked to a power supply that wasn't doing very good.

Until sometime in 2002, it used to be hooked to a Deer 250W power supply and the PCB of the Deer 250W power supply under some resistors was darkened.

It looked like only one cap was bulging. That was in a spot that's most likely to have a failing cap.

I will post a picture tomorrow or shortly after.

Yes it will be good to see a photo. However the age of your board places it right in the worst period for bad caps. 6 years would be good if it is a server working 24/7. Remember cap life is dependent on operating hours and hastened by high temperature.

An intermittent AC power source is unlikely to have any affect on this part. If one cap has gone replace all similar caps and any that are known bad cap branded.

If the power supply is the same age check this out too and replace the caps. Usually the large input caps of a PSU are less likely to need replacing.

From June, 2001 to July, 2002, the motherboard was powered by a Deer 250W, which developed darkened areas where there appear to be resistors.

In July, 2002, I replaced the Deer 250W PSU with a Powmax 300W PSU, which I stopped using in 2003, because it kept on squealing. LOL.

It was by accident that I noticed spots that looked darkened in the Deer 250W.

        NVidia bumpgate
        by piernov
Just archiving everything related to bumpgate since most stuff has disappeared from Google. Maybe people will finally take the time to read some of it and stop shouting "reflow gpu" at every occasion but rather try to understand what the real issue is…
Interesting parts about the failure analysis are "Why Nvidia's chips are defective" and "Why Nvidia's duff chips are due to shoddy engineering"

May complete this post at a later date with more details.

I finally got one too! a new monitor! and my first ips panel to boot!
        by ChaosLegionnaire
after bigtroll managing to score a new video card in this thread, i thought i'd get a new monitor too, since my current one has a bubbly and blurry screen that i posted in this thread.

i tried numerous local websites to get one but many required a mobile number to sign up which i dont own. i also had issues finding the right monitor that met my requirements. it was a nightmare finding one, spending weeks looking through g00gle.

finally, i decided to try lazada, the singapore version of jack's aliexpress. it only required an email address for signup, but whenever i...

        I finally got one! 6700XT
        by BigTroll
Couldn't be a better day today, after upgrading my old x370 rig monday from a Ryzen 7 2700X and 16gb to Ryzen 9 3900X and 32GB I finally scored a Radeon 6700XT on amds website for MSRP of $479!

I know its not the greatest card but 12gb VRAM is awesome and I can't wait to get it. after weeks of waiting and staying up all hours trying to score a card I can't believe my search is finally over. Fuck the scalpers! Never give up on your dreams of getting a new card!

Finally bit the bullet on the Hakko FR301
        by jayjr1105
I've been eyeing this thing up for years but could never justify the cost. I'm doing more console modding and repairs so I finally bit. I don't have it yet but wondering others opinions. I'll not be surprised to hear "you should have bought X instead". Unlike the hundreds of decent Hakko soldering iron clones, I didn't feel the chinese desoldering clones came anywhere near this unit....

Poly VVX-250 VOIP POE problem not booting fix
        by CapLeaker
I've got a bunch of Poly VVX-250 VOIP phones that work fine as kind as long as they are plugged into the wall wart. Recently I got around to install a couple of TP-Link 5 port POE switches that are added to the existing plain Jane 24 port unmanaged switch. Great!!! Finally I am able to ditch the wall warts from these phones making more space on the desk, plus I am gaining some badly needed power outlets. So I thought.

Plugged in the first VVX-250 into the POE switch, booted up no problem. Plugged in the other Poly phones and they start to boot anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds,...
