    msi k7t-pro ver:1 missing cap

    hiya

i have an msi k7t-pro that ive had in storage for some time

what happened in storage i dont know but i do know alot of the caps are of course bulged or leaking - there does seem to be one missing though - possibly snapped off??

anyway i need to find out what value this cap is meant to be - its labelled "C325" and its right next to the cpu socket on the board

ive been happily replacing the rest of the caps on the board without issue

i am wondering though - with the 4700uF caps - im finding it hard to source 6.3v caps for them - is it possible to use 16v caps instead? they fit size wise but im wondering if that will cause any issues

Are you sure the capacitor is missing? A lot of times circuit boards do not use all the silk screened spots on the board. Obviously if there is a piece of capacitor hanging off of it then the cap is missing but most motherboards have places where a cap hasn't been installed and wasn't meant to be based on the design of the board. The board would have had to have had a pretty rough storage period for a cap to have fallen off. I have noticed how durable they are when I chuck them across the room in anger.

Hmmm... the capacitors you're using to replace the damaged units, are they Low ESR rated or merely general purpose caps? IIRC the MSI board I recapped last needed those exact same 4700uF parts, I ended up sourcing 6.3v (FC series) Panasonics

Have you tried contacting the owner of this site for capacitor supplies?
