memory bus termination regulator very hot

So after recapping this msi mb, i still get no video, no post codes on my post card. So, I start feeling around, and everything is cold or very loghtly warm. The W83310DG is burn your finger hot. I look up the chip, it's a memory bus termination regulator. I let it cool, pull out the ram c hips, power on and the chip is hot in seconds.

    Does this seem normal?
Do you think the chip is shorted?
Do you think there is a different explanation?

    Thanks!

    Not normal.

Was it hot before the recap?

I'd check close for solder bridges on/near the caps you replaced, near the RAM slots. Check across the VTerm caps/bus for shorts with a DMM.

    EOL it...

I don't know if it was hot before, there were some obviously blown caps, so I didn't troubleshoot further at the time.

What does vterm stand for? My googling shows it is associated with memory, but it assumes you know what it is.

I don't see any solder bridges, and I cleaned up my solder job, so it looks decent.

I am considering taking it off of the board and seeing if I can at least get a POST out of the board. Would doing so cause damage? I will keep the ram chips uninstalled for the test.

It also looks like the chip may have been a victim of stripping the board of "not essential" caps.

I wish. I just triple checked. They all face left or down.

I'm throwing in the towel on this one. For grins, ill get a new regulator at some point, but Im going to put an order in for a new board.

            Missing information
            - board model
            - chip supply (3.3V ? 2.5V ? other ?
            - memory type (DDR I or II or III ) ?
            - what was recapped (CPU ?, memory ?, chipset ?)
            - did board worked before ?

One blind guess - empty capacitor places ( + connection ) leads to output of W83310DG ( pin 4 ) - if it is so - they should be populated (not without upper information) ...

memory mod for amd radeon r7 260x
              by kokodin
Hello, for almost a year i been trying to make something that seems impossible, or my testing software is lying to me and it works only i can't see that.
I been trying to mod a memory on radeon hd7790 or 260x from 2 to 4 gb, but it doesn't seems to be as simple as i first thought.
In theory 2 workstation graphic cards using the same graphical processor have 4gb of memory firepro w4300 has 4 256x32b layout and W5100 has 8x 128x16b layout all use gddr5 memory and internals of the bioses seems to be very similar so i was trying to wing it , but so far it seems either tserver can't show...

Where can I find a DD3 128000 type memory but 32 MGB in one module because this laptop has only one slot
              by sam_sam_sam
This Dell computer is a pain in the a** because of it only has one memory slot this computer only had 4 megabytes of memory and slower than shit I found a 8 megabyte memory module and it is better but still slow as shit the maximum is 32 megabytes of RAM but I was not able to find one I found some that are 16 megabytes but they are 1600/128000 type and I am not sure if this computer will work with this type of memory or not

Dose anyone knows where I can find a 32 megabytes memory module for this computer because the battery still works fairly well still I would like to use it on my...

old X58 triple channel board... memtest86 memory speed?
              by eccerr0r
Anyone run memory speed tests with an old X58-based triple channel 1st gen or any other >2 channel board? The one I have is a Gigabyte I think.

Anyway I had four 4GB DDR3-1333 modules in the 6 memory slots and got around 11GB/sec memory speeds assuming that it went dual channel since it didn't have enough modules for triple channel. Now I stuck in two more 4GB modules, but they are DDR3-1600. I'm still getting 11GB/sec speeds according to memtest86...

Just wondering, anyone do memory speed analysis on these triple (and higher) channel memory boards? Are there any...
