Hercules 3D Prophet II MX 32MB

I just fixed this video card which had been in my junk pile for a few months. Symptoms were hugely corrupted video even in BIOS text mode when cold, flashing coloured characters over the whole screen. This got gradually better after the card warmed up, until it was almost usable. Eventually the image still flickered even when hot, and I thought it was dead, so junk piled it. I tried to get it working today because I need a video card, and just by chance really I changed the 3 Wendell Electrolytics (680uf, 16v) on the card. Image was rock stable and card worked from cold. Once I'd fixed the damaged PCB traces I clumsied with the soldering iron, the card works like new and I'm very chuffed! These caps had no external signs of damage at all. The card had been in use 24/7 for about 2 and a half years. If it wasn't for this forum that card would certainly have been chucked. Thanks.

I will post pics if u like, maybe not for a week or so as the graphics card is in my work system, and I'll have to find some time when it's not doing something! Card is still working great, with a really nice picture.

Plz, I live in a poor country and I cannot buy another card, that might be funny, but i need to fix this card.

Well, almost exactly symptoms in my Hercules Prophet II mx400 (exactly the same same one), and those 3 "big" wendells just looks like new, I'm gonna change them, but guys, will you change all the caps of the card? the others ones are little, but all are Wendell :

Will destroy the card using a little bigger (30%+ uf) replacement? I cannot find so little caps.

The smaller ones will be probably OK - so replace the big ones first and test if that helped.

Yeah, maybe they are ok now, but they are Wendell i dont know ....

I got some 1000Uf Rubycon to remplace the "big ones" which were 680uf 16V .


So, shall I start to work , and dont worry about the 10 littles ones?
