    Abit BE6-II v1.2 - Bad Caps

Abit BE6-II Version 1.2 with badly swollen Teapo and Jackcon caps. This is one board that a 10mm cap replacement would be near-impossible!! I used all 8mm Rubycons, of course, working perfectly. Sorry, I forgot to take before pics, I just got some afters...

Willawake, here's another array of pretty rubies for ya...

You have changed total of 22 caps?

You used 1500uF for those around slot 1 and 1000uF for the rest?

I'm asking because I have a BE6-II 2.0 with bad caps, some guy attempted to repair but he messed up and used wrong caps in wrong order, now I don't know how they were placed in original board.

I'm extremely ashamed for not doing the job myself, as I didn't have the replacement parts, and give the motherboard for some "experienced technician" do the job.

And I'm afraid the motherboard will not work again because the stupid guy placed one of the caps (EC 15) in the wrong polarity!!!!!

Aparently it has nothing else damaged, just the wrong positioned cap looks bad.

If someone recapped it and installed the caps backward (wrong polarity), don't even power up the board! It will be a problem! Yes, I used 1500uF caps around the CPU slot, as you can see in the pictures. The rest were 1000uF caps.

The BE6-II was a pretty standard recapping... I have actually done one of these boards in 10mm caps. Although it was difficult, it was not impossible, and it didn't look rigged.

                  Thanks for your reply...

The guy dumped the older caps (Jackson - Green color) so I didn't remember if the caps around the Slot 1 where all 1500uF. I'll recap it using 1500uF 10V caps instead 1500uF 6.3V caps along the slot. An the rest, all 1000uF 10V.

So I'll need 15 1500uF 10V caps, right? Even the first 4 small. The guy used 1000uF caps to replace those 4, man what a complete mess

The "tecgnician" returned me the board saying that he recapped it twice but the motherboard failed at burn-in tests, so he said that something else should be wrong with the board, not just the caps.

But now, when I got the board back in my hands. He was supposed to be a person that knew what he was doing. I noticed ONE cap placed in the wrong position.

I don't know if the guy turned this thing on like that and the motherboard died or if it's still working. Gotta replace all caps with quality caps before doing any tests.

                  Actual pictures:

As you can see, the bad cap is marked by the red arrow, it's normal laying sideways because it's a 10mm cap and not enough space there, but u can see the wrong polarity and it's "bigger" than the others, I don't know if you understand what I mean, I forgot the right word to describe it.

I have a BE6-II version 1.0 that I am currently recapping. 20 (!) of 22 capacitors were bad; all 22 are Jackcon. Here is the distribution list from my board:
                    1000uF, 10V: EC1, EC2, EC3, EC4, EC7, EC8, EC9, EC13, EC23, EC24, XEC1
                    1500uF, 6.3V: EC10, EC11, EC12, EC14, EC15, EC16, EC17, EC18, EC19, EC20, EC22

Don't know if Krohling has finished recapping his board, but he's right; the cap is definitely backwards, although that's actually EC16.

Here's a link to another BE6-II recapping job:
                    http://www.computekinc.us/images/Abitbe6ii.jpg
Notice that the technician installed *ALL* 1000uF next to the processor slot. If anyone has any information on this board, I would be interested in knowing the effects on board stability.

Also, does anyone have any information on the *RIGHT* number of processor hold-down clamps? I see that the pictures of the motherboard at the beginning of this thread show one at each end. Mine has one, at the end closest to the edge of the motherboard, not at the center. Krohling's doesn't have *ANY*! Is there a source for obtaining replacements?

Finally, has anyone tried installing a PCI socket in the empty space designed for it, so that slot 6 could be PCI or ISA?

what a f**king idiot. final checking is everything before the board is powered up. prolly the board is ok though.

I finished recapping my BE6-II v1.0 this weekend (with 8mm Rubycons), and it fired up on the first try. Hooray!

Also, I was in error on my previous post. The 1500uF caps were Tayeh, not Jackcon.

Abit "provides parts for free", but charges a $6 "handling" fee PER PART. I broke my one processor hold-down clamp, so now I need two. $12, plus $5.75 for shipping, for parts that probably cost less than $1. Ouch!

                          Hello there,

More than 1 year later I'm here just to say I have successfully repaired my ABIT BE6-II 2.0.

I've contacted Jackon Taiwan and they shipped brand new replacement capacitors, for FREE. I got them last year, at July, really fast from them.

The motherboard is ok, and still alive

I forgot to come earlier to tell this. So if you have an ABIT motherboard with failed Jackon caps, you can ask Jackon and they will ship the replacements.

I was checking the forums now to see good brands of capacitors because I got to repair a PSU, but they are hard to find around here. So I remembered to come here and tell my story about ABIT + Jackon

I've recapped BE6-II v2.0 recently. Many of the black 1000uF Jackcons were bulged, some even leaking, the 4 green 1000uF Jackcons were bulged. The 1500uF (Jackcons too) were looking OK but I've replaced them anyway. Because I didn't have any 1500uF caps, I used 2200uF ones instead.

                              Hi everyone,

I wish I'd known about this site 3 years ago.....

I recapped a $5 swapfest special BE6-II (v1.0?) MB over two years ago, and I can say it really was a learning experience. Number one thing learned? NEVER assume that all capacitors of the same value will be the same diameter.

After reading the posts above, I suspect now that all of the OEM (Jackon??) 1000 and 1500uf caps were probably 8mm. I did, however, manage to squeeze in what I'm thinking now are 10mm parts (it's been a while). Only one or two are slightly offset due to minutely longer leads.

Anyway, the darn thing has been running 24/7 for the past two years with no issues other than the 4-5 pounds of cat fur it the ps sucks in. I was running it with an old 300A OC'd @ 450MHz and just recently put in a P3 800EB. Still chugging away....

Sorry for opening up this old topic - I just got a BE6-II which makes funny things. The board starts OK for the first time, but if I power down, then it will NEVER power up again: I have to clear CMOS checksum to get it running again.
An it's not just not booting, but then it's not even starting the fans, as it would be completely dead.
What might that be? Bad caps as well?

Not sure of the cause, but if the fans don't even start then the PSU is probably detecting an overload and shutting itself down.

You could have a short caused by bad caps, but I'm not sure why it would work until rebooted.

OK, then I'll try discharging all caps when the board is not starting anymore.
                                    Does this make a sense?

                                      Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."
                                      ...

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000

                                      Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

Help with switching power supply caps

I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...

                                      Gigabyte GA-6OXT :: caps question
                                      by Foetuss
                                      Good evening

I recently aquired a rev 1.1 Gigabyte 60XT, and was suprised of the amount of leaking caps for a motherboard of the P3 era. Especially the way the 330µf caps seems like the housing discolored even.
Now, there are some 3300µF 6.3V KZG series around the CPU. Would it be OK to replace them with something like EEUFR1A332 ? (Panasonic FR 3300µF 10V). Or was this board designed around very low ESR caps?

But I was also suprised about the bigger boys, which are 330µF 25V.
Could it be they used 25V caps because they were cheaper / available at that time?...
