    Dell XPS 600 Desktop recapping

Hello. A friend recently gave me a dell XPS 600 Desktop in non working condition. I took it apart and immediately spotted 2 bad capacitors on the board. There is also a coil of some sort that is quite charred too, so much that the back side of the board is a bit black. I can replace the Capacitors just fine, however i dont know what to do with that magnet coil thing...

If I could Id just throw the motherboard out, but its a proprietary dell case, and these old motherboards are going for around $100.

That coil is toast, as are the small caps around it. I always rewind the coil by hand and recap it. Sometimes they come back to life, sometimes they don't. Please search XPS600, there's a lot of threads covering this board. Their recovery rate is about 50/50. They are crappy boards.

No one seems to speak very highly of this board, and others say the Nvidia bus craps out later on.

Ive got a board laying around that all the ram and cpu from this busted one will fit, perhaps with a little bit of cutting to the case i can get a regular motherboard to fit the case and i can get this problem prone board out of there completely.

      Thanks for the info.
