    MS-6318 (Medion 2000)

Got a "Medion 2000" labelled board, looks like MS-6318 (that's on the bar code sticker). (also testing "new" camera)

It's full of bad leaking Chhsi caps:

One interesting thing about these caps - they are only very slightly bulged, if at all.
The mosfets are visibly OK but multimeter shows that they're shorted. Hopefully at least the VRM controller is good.

      Removed 2700uF and 1500uF caps.
All 2700uF show ESR around 10ohms.
And both 1500uF show infinity and 0.2uF capacitance - completely open...

          Re: MS-6138 (Medion 2000)

Both FETs (CEB703AL) were shorted, replaced with CEB6030L.
Replaced 2700uF caps with 2200uF KOME, 1500uF with 1500uF Panasonic, 1000uF with 1000uF KOME. There was also one 100uF and one 470uF - replaced both with 1000uF.
ESR tested all the SMD electrolytic caps - and found two of them bad (10uF/16V) - one completely open, one with higher ESR - so replaced them too.
The battery was also missing and the clear CMOS jumer too - it wouldn't power up without that.
And it works It's Coppermine-only, no Mendocino (tried that first before reading manual).
BTW. Please rename thread, should be MS-6318.

Don`t understad that right now, if it wasn`t meant ironically. MEDION=MSI. So where s is the benefit?
On may be is this equation more apropriate:

Medion=ugly MSI board with a even more reduced component count.
Even those FSP PSU`S used by Medion are of inferior quality, regarding the lytics in quality and nummber.
The last good pc i have from medion, was hteir first pc, the pII 400 including an 17`monitor. This thing was equiped with an intel oem board, and the psu was full of nichicon caps. This unit is still god, replaced an fan for some weaks. Even as it was used for an 24/7 linux/xmule/routing and wlan box.
But his system are alking an AGP port an has only 2 dimm sockets.

yes it was an ironic statement. actually i did not know until now the relationship between medion and msi.

Medion is some german cheap electronic brand. And MSI apparently made this cheap board for them.

Sometimes they calime to sell Asus oem boards in they systems, but in last systems they sold pure MSI, and those boards ahve the badest caps one could expect. And alot of silkscreen is visible. Of course they have a 3 years warranty replacement or repair at home service. But after 3 yreas, one can`t expect that those systems will do any good. May be this is long enough today, even for office use ;-)

                    Re: MS-6318 (Medion 2000)

looks like i am wrong again. Medion were using the brand "microstar" in Germany and own http://www.microstar.de but i did not find any info to confirm a stronger relationship. looks like their laptops are all msi also.

3 years warranty is generous. I see 1 year all over the place recently. chhsi caps are doing about 3 years so medion are probably happy with the warranty.

i am very satisfied with ms-6163 pro, bx master and ms-6337 after recapping. sad about the chhsi. i was really into msi boards until the caps went bad.

The interesting thing is that http://www.msi-computer.de does not list this board but http://www.msi.com.tw does. And the manual there contains "Medion 2000". The BIOS is a bit different - lower version number that was installed from Medion but is newer. It works fine.

The aktuall MSI boards i senn have realy ugly vrm units, e.g. the vcore is realy flaky. And they skimped out some high uf caps on all boards. So may be not bad, but to bad for me.
