Intel D865GLC recap - need advice

Hi! First of all, thanks for this wonderful forum, I've already used badcaps.net to fix my lcd screen psu and find it very usefull overall to up my knowledge of diy electronic repair!

Ok, so I have this file server right, an old p4 computer with 2 hard drives and a shitty vid card, that blew something just yesterday. Smelled funny and all... the computer would not power up at all after that event (no wonder). So, opened the psu and the fuse was blown, but everything else seemed fine, except 2 bulged caps (not too much anyway) on the final circuit, the one near the output wires. Tried a new power supply (55w true power trio), and voila, the computer powered back up and well. Problem solved, right?

Hell no... the mainboard shows heavy caps damage, which I don't really fully understand, so see attached picture of the board in it's current state. 3 Caps are clearly bad, all KZG (united chemicon?) 820uF 6.3v 105c.

Looking back at the power supply board, nothing seemed to have "exploded" the way I heard it when it happened, but on the mainboard, one cap is really messed up, with electrolytic juice sprayed all over and the rubber sleeve popped (C6G1), which seemed like the "exploding" culprit.

Now to the question: I know I need to change the defective caps on the mainboard, but which caps do I also need to change at the same time, so everything will work in the long run? (24/7/365 with very little load)

I'm guessing I need to at least change all 820uF 6.3V caps, (total of 5) but should I change the 16v 1200 uF's, or even more caps, knowing that the psu blew a fuse and is probably dead now? (I don't want to even test it further, was a 350w antec, SL350). Or should I change the whole mainboard because the board probably blew the psu? I'm confused as to how to be sure everything will be ok..

Replace the 820uF 6.3v caps with https://www.badcaps.net/store/produc...roducts_id=163 .

The 16V 1200uF caps can stay if they're Chemi-con KZE series. If they're KZG or KZJ, replace them.

Heres a photo, you actually have a slightly different version. If you had the green chemi-cons I would say don't replace them, but your jackets look brown, so I bet they're KGZ

I BELIEVE the rest of them around the pci slots are nichicons, as they look to have some (xx)x markings, which nichicons use

KZE have had brown sleeves for a while now. Intel often used them in the VRM-High

The nichicons aren't HM series, but they are only GP 85*C caps, so they sometimes dry out on motherboards.

5x KZG 6.3v 820uf 105°c brown sleeve (will replace them all, since 3 failed already)
4x KZE 16v 1200uf 105°c brown sleeve (according to you guys, should leave them be)
1x Rubicon MHZ 10v 2200uf 105°c black & gold sleeve

*small*
15x Nichicon VR(M) 470uf 10v 85°c black sleeve
1x Nichicon VR(M) 470uf 16v 85°c black sleeve
12x Nichicon VR(M) 100uf 25v 85°c black sleeve
7x Nichicon VR(M) 22uf 25v 85°c black sleeve
4x Nichicon VR(M) 22uf 16v 85°c black sleeve
2x Rubicon YK 100uf 25v 85°c black sleeve

plus those 7x polymer (A 39f) 2.5v 680uf ...

if I want to run this board another 5 years (been already at least 3 years 24/7), what should I replace, only the KZE or should I replace everything except polymer?

Replace the 5x Chemi-con KZG. If the board seems OK, then leave it at that. You could replace the 85*C ones if you care to, but I don't often see them fail.
