    Dell Dimension 2400 No Post

I have my son's old Dell Dimension 2400, which stopped posting last year.
All caps are Rubycon and none are bulged. ESR tests fine.

I have removed the board from the case and using my Post Card I observe there is no display of Post Codes at all!

The board does power up and that IBM heatsink/fan runs at max speed.

I am thinking that one or more of the MOSFETS is open circuit or grounded.

There are six in total, three on each side of the L-shaped heatsink. It looks like I can remove the heatsink by removing the screw that atttach the MOSFETS to the heatsink.

Can anyone offer advice on how to test these MOSFETS or are they likely the problem at all? The MOSFETS are labelled 70L02P and 408401.

I do a simple, in circuit, resistance test between S-G, S-D, and G-D. Any reading under 30 ohms suggests a short and the component should be desoldered and verified out of circuit.

Others have done it this way.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
      by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Dell Dimension PSU Compatibility - B110 PSU in 4550
      by SwedishDiesel
      Howdy folks,

I've risen from the grave to ask more questions about old obsolete Dells.

I've acquired a Dell Dimension 4550 which is in need of a PSU - I've several PSUs from Dell Dimension B110s, and I'm wondering if one of them could be used. The PSUs and the 4550 use a 20-pin connector and a 4-pin connector.

The issue is, I've been told that Dell really likes using proprietary hardware, and there were concerns about damage being caused by an incompatible supply. Because of this I'm assuming it's not just a simple plug-and-play and that there's more...

Dell Pro 13 Plus PB13250 Bios Unlock
      by Akhlz001
      Hi,

Could someone help trying to unlock this BIOS, seems that Dell have changed the layout of new Dell Pro 8FC8 bioses from checking HXD - 4000 bits do not need changing, only 2000. However after FF the section starting from '01000' upto 2000 bits and then soldering the chip back it seems that the microchip on the motherboard is recovering the bios back to original settings after first boot. Has anyone found a way to crack this extra layer of security Dell have implemented? Seems both HP and Dell have upped bios security to match Lenovo by implementing extra measures on a separate...

Dell Inspiron 5590 Board 18778-1 no charging, charging not possible
      by master3112
I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.

The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type...
