    P5E: what's wrong?

Found this board laying outside on grass

It is able to run flawlessly until the moment I either load default CMOS settings or change it and save. After that I get 1C6A error on POST card, no beep or something.

Upgraded to last BIOS, still the same. Suggestions?

ADD// noticed the VRM for GLAN Marvell chip is very overheated, one of the FETs reads only 14 ohms

any idea on 1c6a? I tried looking that up without much success

maybe you should manually go into the cmos, after clearing it and disable the nic? I'm not sure that would cut power to it though

      Re: P5E: what's wrong?

Well in the manual for POST card are 2-character codes only yet it displays 4 characters

The GLAN chip will be most likely dead, right? Guy told me this si quite common during storming. I think it may not matter whether the GLAN died thus there is short or otherwise, there was short and it is most likely dead no due to the overheating.

So if I disable/remove the GLAN it may work?

ADD// removed GLAN, no change. Tried even to diable all devices in BIOS.

There is thing I omitted before cause I have seen it on multiple both older and younger boards: it shuts down when I save the BIOS, than starts again. May be that the CMOS (not BIOS itself) arrea is broken so any attempt to change somethign there will result in this.

Well, no harm anyway, as I said, foudn this on grass. Will canibalize polymers, MOSFETs, coolers and other usefull stuff :-)

Replace the CMoS Battery with a New one and try again.

There was no battery (you think anybody will leave it there? :-D). Well I used new one, but that cannot have any impact anyway, it has to run from +5V SB rail, battery keeps it just when power is interrupted.

No CMos or bad/low CMos battery will have an effect esp on ASUS boards. If you want to sell it instead of canibalizing (destroying) it let me know.

Pretty late but anyways: Some POST code test cards with 4 digit displays show the current POST code and the one before that, like displaying AABB where AA is the current code, and BB is the one from directly before.

Well I am little far away from you, I guess it has not such value for you to pay for the postage. Not mentioning I would want at least value of the caps, and there is whole bunch of them

Scenic: good point, will remember that. Well not that the codes have some meaning anyway, since the table in manual is 10-15 years old, it just says "reserved" for most of the codes

                  Hi Everyone,
I have brought you a mistery item
This laptop have come with some strange faults.
                  1. CMOS battery was flat 0v
                  Symptoms:
                  - After using the laptop and shutting down and removing the AC adapter for at least 1 minute, the laptop never turned on until EC reset (either shorting RTC or removing battery and long pressing power button)
Amp drawing was stuck at 0.005 milliamps.
                  - Laptop cannot really be turned off because it autostarts about 5 sec-1 or 2 minute. (lid sw is not the problem)

After inverstigation RTCD1 diode had a low value...

ThinkPad T470 does not power up with CMOS battery attached
                  by rumpumpel1
I have a ThinkPad T470 that will not boot when the CMOS battery is plugged in.
With only the fan, a RAM module and a USB-C monitor attached, but no CMOS battery, it starts up normally, i.e. after about 90 seconds and two reboots, it stops with a message to press F1 to enter date & time.
If the power is switched off and a CMOS battery is inserted, it restarts as described above. However, after switching it off and on again, it does not turn on. It draws almost no current and shows no sign of life.
I used a different CMOS battery and checked the components around the battery...

                  Hey there people
While working on my Acer Aspire with the OS failing to load, I encountered a motherboard number of DA0ZHQMB6E 0 REV: E. I was getting nowhere fast or slow, for that matter.
This is what I tried, but not in any order.

                  by valente222
Hello everyone, I have this DELL computer. problem when turning on it does not show an image. Diagnostic LED indicates CMOS battery failure. I measure the battery and 3v is fine. When turned on with battery CMOS consumption of 240mA. By removing the CMOS battery it can consume 800mA and sometimes gives an image when it wants. This happened after a while of installing an SSD. Will ME be corrupted by Windows?...
