    ga-6vtxd unstable?replace those gsc/choyo 330@25

    shops workorder database server took a dump.the powmax/leadman crap power supply was loaded with bloated teapo caps.i bet it gets introduced to dr. glock if i dont wad it up like a beercan first for exercise!
    most caps on the mobo are rubycon mbz.
    board would not pass memtest more than 5 min.
    vdimm had 1v p-p of crap on it.
    all gsc/choyo caps got replaced with panasonic fm 1000@6.3 except the 3 along the agp
    they got pw 1200@6.3
    results now are perfect.
    crap caps dont have to bulge to be bad.
    these averaged 3 ohms esr!

      a low esr cap reading 3 ohms esr might as well be open.

        I've decided to use this as a DNS cache.
        I intend to recap the VRM and other caps on this board

        On the I/P side of the VRM, there are;
        5 of Choyo 6.3V 1200uF.
        This is obviously a +5.0V CPU VRM
        These will be replaced with;
        2 of 1500uF 10V, 3 of 1000uF 10V Pana FM.

        Looking at the VRM, on the O/P side CPU1 has;
        1 of 1500uF 6.3V Choyo
        2 of 1200uF 6.3V Choyo

        And CPU-2 has;
        1 of 1500uF 6.3V Choyo
        1 of 1200uF 6.3V Choyo
        The via for the other 1200uF is present but is empty.

        We have a lab of 25 computers with these motherboards in them. This one marks the third that has died. Machine will work, but locks up all the time. Sometimes you get a colorful video output (though they don't have onboard video...), other times it just goes to sleep and won't wake up 'til you restart it. Two visibly bad caps, one GSC 1200uf 6.3v, one Choyo 330uf 25v, both short caps. There are also five total Choyo 3300uf 6.3v "tall" caps around the CPU, which have not visibly failed, and seven Choyo 330uf 25v caps (same as the one failed one) scattered around the mobo that have not...

        What to swap on a GA-8IDX
        by pentium
        I mentioned in an earlier thread that I picked up this mobo but I never really got around to recapping it. Now that my first recap has failed (probably I missed a few) I need a newer, faster source of computing power.
        **sorry if pics too large**

        Above the cpu are sevral bulging GSC's and CHOYO's, the large caps scattered over the board are also GSC's and there are smaller CHOYO's also scattered around.

        There's a set of sanyo's along the cpu and they don't have any visible signs of failure.

        Is it recommended for...

        Ga60XET recapped
        by jakah
        I bought this board cheaply from a guy who sold it as defect. He told me it posted, but was unstable.

        The board had four bad GSC caps (3300uF 6,3V), four still good Choyo caps (1200uF 6,3V) and 11 small 330 uF Gluxon caps. I replaced only the GCS and Choyo ones. I didn't mind the Gluxons as they were of such small capacitance.

        As replacement I coulnd't find any fitting caps to buy, so I replaced the four GSC ones with Sanyo 3900uF 6,3V caps found in an old Dell BX board, and the four Choyo ones with a three Sanyos and one Rubycon cap (both 1500uF 6,3V) from a noisy...

        GA-6VA recap
        by cods69
        My folks use an old GA-6VA R3 for their basic net needs. It started playing up while I was there, not even getting past BIOS sometimes. Machine was cold.
        I rolled my eyes at my luck and took it home for further diag.
        It continued playing up at my place intermittently in the same fashion, even after swapping PSU's and stripping the board to ram/cpu/vga and checking for shorts.
        Swapped ram/cpu/vga (found one of my spare cpu's dies in Memtest) but still no solid cause.

        I didnt want to build a new system and set up Win with all their email stuff etc., so recap it...
