Seagate HDD Damage From Wrong Voltage

    Hello,
I have a Seagate ST3500312CS where is dead because overvoltage of the power supply. When I unscrew the PCB I saw that three capacitors (or maybe ferrite beads) where blown out. Do you have any idea if I have a possibillity to fix it. The problem is that I have an industrial custom PC where recognizes only the disk with the certain only firmware (it is crazy but it is true). Does anyone knows where the firmware of the disk is saved (I have another segate disk but with different firmware and I thought If I could replace the firmware chip in the good one). Anyway I would like to fix it (always there is something new to know in repairs), so there is any schematic of HDDs or what to suggest me to check it will be very helpful?

It would make sense that they are ferrite filters on the +12v line.
If the drive is important I would buy a drive on eBay and move the components over from that to your current drive.

Intel iMacs, 3rd party SSD failures and Fusion setups
        by reformatt
I thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.

As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.

So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...

Anker SoundCore 2 Bluetooth Speaker Turns Off After a Few Seconds (Possibly Firmware Issue?)
        by zklgfs
        Hi,

I have an Anker SoundCore 2 (A3105) that I saved from the trash (well, I guess there's a reason why it was supposed to go into the trash...). The problem is that it always turns off after a few seconds (sometimes it stays on a bit longer, between 30 and 60 seconds, but it still turns off). The power light turns on and the bluetooth light starts blinking, but both abruptly turn off again. The "turn off sound" is still played after the lights turn off. Sometimes, it also loops the on-off cycle several times without me pressing any buttons. If I connect an AUX cable, music...

        Thinkpad Docker G2 Type-C 40AS - Firmware Unknown
        by TheUser
        Hello to everyone ,

Docker Type-C Gen 2 - Model 40AS. Was given to me by a friend for free ,but with the problem that you cannot use the video output ports.

I searched on reddit and google for problem similar to that, and a LOT of people had fixed this problem by updating the firmware. So i tried , i searched and found 1.1.13 utility and 1.1.20 utility that can help...

        Ubiquiti firmware help. US-8-150W POE
        by gurj1979
        Hi guys.

I've got a Ubiquiti US-8-150W POE switch which has issues with updating the firmware.
Turned out to be a bad EEPROM chip. It would read the firmware and work as normal, but failed to write new firmware to it.

So I took off the chip and read on EEPROM and saved it. Wrote to old chip and failed to write
Got New chip and writes good.

        THE PROBLEM...
It fails to fully load the firmware, POE lights fail to work during g firmware test during load. I'm suspecting bad EEPROM Read.

Does anyone have a Good Firmware I can have?...

Request for EC firmware for MSI Vector GP66 12UHSO (MS-15441 ver 1.0)
        by Slapito
I'm currently repairing an MSI Vector GP66 12UHSO laptop with a motherboard reference MS-15441 ver 1.0. The EC chip (ENE KB9548QF2) on the board appears to be damaged and needs to be reprogrammed.

Can someone please send me the firmware (EC/Embedded Controller) or indicate where I can download the correct EC firmware version corresponding to this motherboard model?

I already have access to the BIOS downloads on the MSI support page, but need specifically the EC binary or its equivalent firmware image.

I already downloaded the BIOS update file from msi official...
