    Hp 22-DD0302IN aio strange issues

    MODEL:HP ALL IN ONE 22-DD0302IN
    Problem:
hp bios update failed unable to open bios image file

This message pops up and it reboots in a loop. I've flashed 086F3 bios from HP site and replaced eeprom chip as well.(Replacement is also 1.8V chip). After flashing, still get the same pop up error msg.

I thought it may be bios image update is stored in SSD(Kingston 250),so i replaced the ssd with samsung 512 nvme.

The mb doesnt show anything on screen when any other SSD is installed(I tried several brands, capacities) even though its new. Went ahead and removed SSD and inserted win11 bootable only with no hdd/ssd.Still no image on screen. The moment you put its original kingston 250 back, there is display on screen with error popup.

Whats the way out? I tried my level best but couldnt understand the puzzle.Could it be EC firmware?

PS: MB posts correctly with other SSD as well(usb kbd numlock light works with no image on screen.)

Bootblock likely looking for a recovery image on the SSD. I would try flashing a dump from another machine rather than the update file from the website, it could be incomplete.

Are you the first tech to work on the PC or has the bios been flashed before. If you`re the first you must have looked at the BID and found 086F3 ,you would expect it to be the correct version. If you`re not the first or you suspect microsoft update has somehow flashed the wrong one then there are 5 more bios to choose from. Its the same number of bios options whether you enter the model number 22-DD0302IN (it gives another option to choose product 681U0PA, if that isn`t the product you should search for updates by series instead - https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=122195) or if you choose by series 22-DD0000i .

Edit: Forget all that, the other 5 are all intel bios.

The hp website has complete 16MB bios,so that cant be the issue.
Yes I'm the first tech to open up the PC. i've read the bios and its BID is 086F3 for sure.

What is puzzling me is that there is display on screen only with KINGSTON 250 SSD(which came with this PC) and no display if you put any other SSD.

I dont think its main bios issue since i've access to another bios read from same PC and flashing that bios also gave same symptoms. thats why i didnt posted it in the bios forum.

Finally was able to solve the mystery. Opened the backup read from original bios in hex editor. zerro filled entry from hex D000-DC6F which were all entries showing bios upgrade failed. Saved this bios and re flashed on the PC-still same error boot loop. tried usb recovery this time it worked and flashed bios successfully after several reboots. earlier when usb recovery was tried(the same pen drive was used earlier with exact same contents),it didnt gave any beep sound and nothing went correct but this time it worked. Not very convinced myself, but anyway case solved. It seems in such bios flash failure, usb recovery only works any flashing the bios chip externally perhaps dont work. Thanks everyone who responded

PS: Now any brand nvme ssd works on this PC.
