no issues in the US... there was some static at first, but unplugging it from the main phone jack, the middle box on this pic:



that is only used if your phone is with the phone company, but ours is through our cable modem. once unplugged from the cord coming out of the main splice (far right box), then the static was lost and all was fine. you can see the cord hanging, i zip tied it to the new cord so it is out of the way.

also, no packet loss on the wire... no problems at all.

i guess phone standards are different on the other side of the atlantic...

maybe because we run 230v so induced noise is more of an issue.

the only 230v of my house is far, far way from those wires.

good luck... there is no access to the insides of the walls from the basement... ruuning wire that way would be a real PITA.

the say they are here, you would have to put a hole in the wall where you need the cable, and when you get into the basement, you have to drill another hole in the floor joist.. and then have fun trying to get it though both and fishing the wire through.. already did it once for the phone wire.. now need to do it again for the cable wire.. fun... as for doing it in the one bedroom upstairs, well add the fun of there being insulation in the wall to the whole thing..

I'm an electrician by trade and we're required by all of our commercial/office clients to keep data/phone cabling minimum of 6" from all power cables and conduits. My company also does cat5 and cat6 pulls and the same rule applies.

stj- the ring voltage here in the US is 90 volts minimum and I've seen it as high as 120volts - that's the same as getting hit by a receptacle circuit!

well too bad then, i am not going to rip out all of my hard work over something not causing an issue. to run it that far away would be impossible in this house without using extraneous amounts of wire. if i have problems, it will get ripped, but for now, it ill stay as is.

Some agree that wireless and powerline networking should only supplement your wiring dedicated to wired networking, not replace it. James Cook University says something like that.
