    FPD1730 has failed on me

Have a Gateway FPD1730 17" here, which worked flawlessly until today. Now all that I get on the screen (whether connected to a PC or not), is a mushed white screen that after a second, begins developing light purple blotches, the screen is also full of thin lines. When connected to a PC, the mush does change up, but is still a load of un-viewable white, lined mush.

Crap caps, or has the CPU on the logic board bit the dust?

Could be either, but my guess it more likely the logic board. Take it apart and maybe you will see bloated caps?

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

Didn't see any bloated out. Perhaps one (or more) has silently failed? has happened with two other FPs that I own. (caused the backlights to fail)

It looks like there 2 bloated caps (that brown crust on top) on the logic card and possibly 3 on the power board.

It would be helpful to get 2000x2000 clear focused pics if possible. Put the boards by the window on a sunny day and use macro mode.

Something like this (one for each board)

I go for either the logic board or a loose cable to the panel itself. The white screen can also be caused by a fuse open on the panel, but that would be just white, not the way you describe it............
