Can I replace the big 82uF cap with a similar voltage, but bigger capacitance? Those 82uF are pretty hard to get around here. Would 100uF or even 220uF work? Thanks

I had the exact same issue as OP with my 245bw. I first checked caps, only bulged ones were on the inverter board. I replaced the 4 35v 220uf caps. Still had the same issue. After some more digging I was redirected to this thread. I had a burnt out resistor, same one that cleopula pointed out. I didnt have a 67.4 ohm handy so I threw in a 50 ohm resistor and the monitor works great now just wanted to let everyone know.

ok, thanks for the info about the glue was kinda like after reading those last few posts there.

had to take the whole thing apart again to do it...

It usually has the glue on other section of the board beside at the resistors, I.E, blue high voltage cap.

no glue, none that i can see... i scraped it all off to look at the colour codes on the resistors...

@hadwell, great news, and make sure to remove all those glue from the components.

SUCCESS!! replaced the 3x 68ohm 1/2w with 5w (really hard to fit, but i managed it) and replaced the 46ohm with a 1w and it sprung back to life, better than new!

thank you so much for your time and effort, this thread is amazing.

P.S. 245BW blinky blue LED was the problem.

Most of them use white pliable glue now, may be 3 years ago.

Why is this glue still used in electronics if its been known for many many years that it is conductive?
Surely a non conductive alternative glue is available now?

That's great, this glue problems has been around for many many years.
Some of the boards I worked on had the traces eaten up by this glue.

Yeap, after I cleaned all the glue, the monitor started right up.
I have replaced all the capacitors, just in case and it's ready for sale.

You need to remove ALL the glue, they are conductive and corrosive.

Picked up only one, the other two were scratched pretty badly and I'm out of luck again. No resistor fix for me.
I have the 195A power supply and not the 173A. It was sparking(!!) when I turned it on, next to the biggest transformer there is a small blue ceramic(?) capacitor that was making contact with a jumper through the glue(!!!).
Cleaned the glue and now the short circuit tester's bulb turns on when the monitor is on.
Next I will have to test a few components.
I guess I should move to another post, which discusses this type of power supply or should I open a new one?

It looks like tomorrow I will pick up three of these.
I have just remembered that I still have an issue with the one I have fixed already, and I have to take a picture about the problem(blue horizontal lines).
It's not always there, only sometimes.

You should also remove those glue on the component, they are conductive and also corrosive.

Damn, I was googling a completely different code trying to find a replacement.

That said, I got one of my two 245bw's working! I believe it was the resistors that made the difference. Tested before resistors were replaced, with no luck. Tested post-replacement, voila! (note the somewhat shady mcguyvering after I accidentally burned and ripped out the circuitry on the board)

Should I bother buying a new board for my second monitor? Just found one on ebay, but I worry that the caps may be of subpar quality and I may need to replace them soon anyway.

I burned out a part of the circuit board on my other PSU board (see 3rd pic) and I'm not sure that it's worth making the investment in replacing the caps/resistors. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Can anyone provide a link to purchase the 245bw's psu board?

A clunky soldering iron and limited personal experience led to some potentially irreversibly burnt boards on my end. Figure it's worth just shelling out the $60/board instead.

thanks to all! the problem with my 234bw was also the RB805 resistor.

    Samsung Syncmaster 740BF repair
    by soopacrucial
    Hi folks,

I'm new here and was wondering whether you might be kind enough to give me some advice on troubleshooting the following problem:

Quite a few years ago now, a couple of years from new, my Samsung Syncmaster 740BF LCD monitor starting playing up by making a buzzing noise and then the display would go blank. I seem to remember the blue power led would also go off when this happened but that I'm not 100% sure of. By pressing the power button I do remember I could at first get it working again but eventually the problem would come back. At the time I had read about...
