    screen resolution vs monitor size

I have recently downgraded from a 18inch to a 17inch screen, and have noticed that the webpages are too big for my 17inch - that I have to scroll across pages to read. It never happened to me when I was on my 18inch, with resolution set on 800x600.

The only option I have is to adjust my resolution, changing from 800x600 to1024x768..but I'm so used to working on 800x600 resolution and dont really feel comfortable with smaller desktop icons and font size.

As I want to stay on 800x600 without having to scroll, I was wondering if exchanging for a 19inch would help?

no, pages are measured by pixels not inches.

    BUT

    a 19" on 1024x768 would be similar to 800x600 on a 17".

so the upgrade would help if you changed resolution.

euh......so no first but yes ?

Not quite sure if i got this right.

If I upgrade from 17' to 19', and set the reso at 800x600, will i still have the same prob? - huge webpage and needing scrolling?

Yes, you should have the same problem with any monitor set to 800x600.
Do you find it difficult to read higher resolutions?
1024x768 should be the absolute minimum nowadays.

Try going to a higher resolution, but increase the font size to compensate.

          In windows:
          control panel->display properties->appearance->font size

don't know how it's done on Mac.

For web pages monitor settings don't have much to do with it the way you seem to be thinking.

For some web pages it doesn't matter how big the monitor is...
Web pages can be coded to be:
.... x-many pixels wide ..or.. x-many % of screen width.
If the page is coded for a set number of pixels and that width is more than your resolution is set for then you will have to scroll.
            - Pages that are coded that way these days are often wider than 800 pixels but rarely wider than 1024. About the only time you see pages coded wider than 1024 is if the coder has an extra wide screen and is an idiot that doesn't realize not everyone else sees what he does on his own screen.
