    Capacitance Meter?

I've been reading the post here tonight and really enjoy this forum.

You guys have helped me and given me the confidence to fix things I never thought I could.

I was reading a post and the topic was about capacitance meters. I'm retired telephone company and I used hundreds of different meters in my career, beginning with the simple analog Ohm meter.

I currently on my second Fluke brand digital meter, after my old Robinair finally gave out after 25 years of great service.

My question is: Can I use he Fluke 73 III digital meter to measure capacitance?

Until I retired, Resistance was the main trouble issue I tracked down for 35 years. Some of the telephone wiring loop test that we made was at 60,000 feet of distance in the twisted wire, which was a 30,000 direct measure from a point to point. We were requred to climb the telephone poles between point to point. We would measure at one point, say 25,000 feet and guess the foot distance and climb every pole until we found the trouble.
Only one in 150 technicians had Bucket Trucks to use, I was always in the 149 crowd.

Capacitance Meter, I see lots lots sale on the internet, but most look like my Fluke 73III

    Wrong subforum.

To answer your question, while the Fluke 73 III is a fine instrument, it doesn't measure capacitance. Also, while checking the capacitance is helpful, it is more important to know the ESR of the capacitors.

Take a look at this thread, in particular the Blue ESR meter and RusMike's new meter.

      Look at the capacitance range.
For what we talk about here you need something like 0.01uF-4700uF to cover most everything.
Most of the DMM's with an add-on Capacitance function aren't in that range.
