    Gateway FPD2185W with vertical lines

I haven't been around for a while but just got my hands on a non-functioning Gateway FPD2185W. The monitor was not turning on. I have swapped the power supply with one that I have already replaced the capacitors on and now the monitor works fine but I have two vertical lines that are showing up. Against the white background of the picture, the one on the left looks yellow green and the one on the right looks pinkish purple. The lines are each one pixel wide and go all the way from top to bottom of the screen.

    Suggestions?

The usual suggestion is to try reseating the flex strip connecting the panel electronics to the glass panel. Use gentle pressure, don't try to pull itoff!!

For a number of reasons, both health and personal, I will no longer be active on this board. Any PMs asking for assistance will be ignored.

Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark. Professionals built the Titanic.

Panels don't have disconnectable connections to the line drivers ICs mounted on the flex wirings. The failure happened on one of IC driver section for that band down the panel. Say you have 8 vertical driver ICs (column), one of that 8 has bad connection either at tape-LCD bond joint or IC driver bond-flex strip. Not repairable.

True for any LCDs even 55". Plasma panels does this as well only for triggering pixels to light up via column drivers ICs (all bonded) and connected to the disconnectable connectors. But the flex strip with ICs are all bonded and bonded to the panel's glass.

      Cheers, Wizard

It has worked for me in the past (sometimes). Also, one time I disconnected the ribbon that goes from VBoard to Panel. It was kind of dirty. Cleaned, reinstalled, and voila! problem gone. Try it.

I can try to reseat but I don't think that will do anything for a single line of pixels but who knows.

I have another panel that is the same but cracked glass. I have been using for scrounging parts including CCFL which you guys previously helped me with. Is there a parts swap that I could consider to marry these two together?

Nop. The "glass" is the TFT screen attached to the panel's logic board by that infamous flex cable. I guess you have another parts donor.
