Laptop backlight help

I have a toshiba satellite a45. The backlight just stopped working today out of the blue. Is it possible for me to diagnose if it is the inverter or the tube itself? How would I go about doing that? Would posting pictures of the inverter help? I hope it is the inverter because that is relatively cheap. Any other info needed?

Occasionally I will scarf a scanner off the curb, just to strip it and keep parts.
I use the tubes as inverter testers, and the inverters as tube testers.
