    Acer AL1711: Two dead caps and a VERY fried resistor!

    Got this one from work, No backlight at all. Aside from two bloaded 220uf/25V OST caps, there's also this very well done (probably past overdone) R1. Anyone that worked on one of these monitors know the value of this resistor?

      What does it test at? is the green fuse ok?

          Green fuse tests out alright.

          Haven't removed it from circuit yet, but in-circuit I am getting 8.2k. Page you linked lists that as a 10 ohm resistor, so safe to say it's open since I'm getting 8.2k across it

              I've worked on one of these and yes, it's a 10 ohm resistor. And I highly recommend that you replace all the caps (8 of them) except the large 100uf 450V one.

                  Will do that. So far just replaced the two busted caps and the toasted resistor, and it does work again.

                      That I think is X1 that cooked.
                      Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.

                      My computer doubles as a space heater.

                      Permanently Retired Systems:
                      RIP Advantech UNO-3072LA (2008-2021) - Decommissioned and taken out of service permanently due to lack of software support for it. Not very likely to ever be recommissioned again.
                      Asus Q550LF (Old main laptop, 2014-2022) - Decommissioned and stripped due to a myriad of problems, the main battery bloating being the final nail in the coffin.

                              At least that resistor cooked and cut the circuit power before anything else got cooked. Just be glad that was the only thing besides those caps that went.

                                  ^ Yeah, it does look like X1 at a glance, but looking at the pic closely it seems more like R1.
