Re: Dell 2005 FPW 2 and power flashing
I'm not sure but I don't think that is a regulator, unless they are using it as one somehow.
That device to the right of it in the photo with 1117 on it, that will be a regulator."Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

Re: Dell 2005 FPW 2 and power flashing
It is electronic switch FOR 3.3V for 3.3c DVI.
I wonder if other ON/OFF signals for U602, 603, 611 as shown in the manual are also fluctuating.Last edited by budm; 03-15-2015, 09:00 PM.Never stop learning

The 3.3_SW comes from the display processor.Comment

Re: Dell 2005 FPW 2 and power flashing
Oops. Yeah that doesn't make sense, does it? Then at least U603 would also get switched and U610 would not produce steady output... Never mind then."Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

Re: Dell 2005 FPW 2 and power flashing
Possibly, it has a star next to it in schematic which could indicate it is unused. Sometimes they design things in and then don't use them in production, or it's for a different model.
Can you remove R451 and see if the output voltage of U405 becomes stable?"Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

Re: Dell 2005 FPW 2 and power flashing
That's going to be a tough one. Think my iron is way too hot for that SMT resistor. My have to take the board to work and use the hot tweezers on it. It looks like a 0 ohm part too.Comment

Re: Dell 2005 FPW 2 and power flashing
You could try disconnect Pin 3 of U405 instead? It might be easier, they say it's a TO-92 package in the manual."Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

Re: Dell 2005 FPW 2 and power flashing
OK. With R451 removed, one side reads 4.98v and the other side reads ov. Also with it removed, all four 4 lights (1 2 3 4) and the power light is on solid.1 and 2 are yellow, 3 and 4 are green and the power light is yellow. When I read the 0v side, all lights go out. When I remove the meter lead, the 4 numbers come back on the same way but the power light does not come on until I unplug it and plug it back in.Last edited by Nightwolf; 03-17-2015, 09:42 PM.Comment

Re: Dell 2005 FPW 2 and power flashing
Seems like either U405 can't handle a load for some reason, or perhaps the reset pin on U402 is bad. Unless budm has any other ideas, it's all I can think of.
What resistance do you get from the 0v side of R451 to GND?"Tantalum for the brave, Solid Aluminium for the wise, Wet Electrolytic for the adventurous"

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by PantherDaveHi all!
I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅
I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

by STKR123As the Elitebooks (820, 840 all gens) only show flashing Power LED and flashing CapsLock (continuously) + a very soft "ticking" noise near the DC Jack,
I wonder if re-flashing the BIOS might be of any use here.
As far as I understood, steady flashing either means insufficient power or a CPU/GPU/Motherboard issue. I use the original 65watt power supply.
There are so many threads out there, but most of the solutions involve flashing codes, which I dont have or claim that you MUST use the original power supply, do a hard reset, reseat the RAM, clean the RAM,... -
by dj-bobrHi,
I kindly ask for help with Thinkpad BIOS/ME repair.
Thinkpad W541 board bought from Aliexpress, so I have no service tag nor S/N. It is 1GB version Q1 (K1100 nVidia GPU). BIOS 2.23, EC 1.13, ME 9.1.32.1002.
It worked fine until I tried to remove whitelist.
Steps taken:
- battery out, CMOS coin cell out, laptop disassembled; I kept LAN/USB subboard connected
- i took SPI programmer (CH341A with 3.3V mod) and SOIC clip and did a full backup of all SPI flash chips (SPI1 and SPI2 - BIOS, EC, ME, GbE; SPI3 - video BIOS; SPI4 - Thunderbolt fw) for several...-

by seppdeHello everyone,
I've recently gotten my hands on a defective XPS13 9380. I will attach a zip of the schematics and boardview.
My first discovery on the Board was that the reverse current Diode PD103 of the 1st USB-C was blown.
Nothing to worry about, the board got 3 USB-C ports which support Power/Charging. On I go.
Next I inspected the power-rails to see why the diode blew up and found a short on the 3V3 rail which I traced back to the Power-IC for the LCD (UZ2). I desoldered it and the very low-ohmic short is gone. I checked on the LCD-connector that there's no short... - Loading...
