Faytech FT0150TM touchscreen turning on and off - fixed

I've been dealing with this 15" touchscreen monitor from the early 2010s. Over time, it has become more and more difficult to power on. As soon as a video signal comes in, the Faytech logo appears on the screen and then it goes black. Then a couple of seconds later the Faytech logo comes back up on the screen and it goes black again. This process repeats over and over again. Eventually if I leave it on long enough, the video display finally comes up and it works fine. The longer I leave it turned off, the longer it will boot loop before working correctly again. I tried a different AC adapter but it had the exact same problem so I concluded it's something in the monitor itself.

I opened it up and immediately spotted three iffy-looking 470 uF, 16V capacitors near the DC in jack. The manufacturer/model of these caps is Chong CD11X. The main PCB is identified as: NS_FT81A_V1.2_20120818

Two of them were looking a little bloated. I removed them and measured their capacitance and ESR.
    • Top capacitor nearest to the power jack, doesn't look bloated: 425 uF, ESR = 0.09 ohms.
    • Next lowest capacitor, right next to the white connector with black wires, a little bloated: 411 uF, ESR = 0.91 ohms
    • Bottom capacitor, looks quite bloated: 400 uF, 0.39 ohms
The two that look bloated definitely had higher than normal ESR. All three of them were a bit on the low side in terms of capacitance spec. Definitely within +/- 20% though. I replaced them with Nichicon caps that measure about 500 uF and 0.03 ohms.

After replacing those three caps, the monitor works perfectly again! I probably should have replaced all of the smaller ones too, but I guess I'll leave that for the future.

    Epson EB-U42 projector / Caps with 0.7 ohms ?!
    by narf
    hi all,

first of all: i'm a (motivated) newbie, so please forgive me any stupid question i may or may not ask

i'm currently repairing a projector: Epson EB-U42 that doesn't start (no lights, nothing).

    what i've found so far:
    - the PSU does its job and supplies 12V to the mainboard via the connector.
    - shortly thereafter, there is a mosfet (TS420-600B) where i can test 12V on the one side (in the data sheet this side is called Anode), Gate 0V, Kathode shorted to ground
    - not far away, there's the first cap with a resistance of 0.7 ohms....

Dell 2007WFP resistors under white silicon blog
    by BustinCaps
My beloved 2007WFP just died on me. It has a green blinking light that just cycles through various display numbers. For a while I noticed it would blink slightly like the refresh rate was off. Nothing I have done has been successful in turning it on. So I took it apart and looked at the USB board since many people have had problems with the resistors under the silicon blob. I looked at the various other boards for the obvious signs such as blown caps, bad fuses, burn marks etc. Nothing looked obvious. I also checked most of the caps with an ESR meter and they checked out good.

Yoga3 Pro-1370 Board NM-A321 DEAD no power at all
    by k370
    Hi everyone,

I have a NM-A321 board that is dead, with no power at all.

When I received the laptop, the +5VPMIC line was shorted. Removing the PU3 (ISL95905) solved the short, so I ordered and replaced the ISL.

With the new ISL, the short is gone, but still no voltages at all. I measured the following rails:
    • +3VALW
    • +5VAUX
    • 1.2VSUS_PWRGD
    • 3VALW_PGD
    • 1.05VAUX_PWRGD

Additionally, the ISL95906 (PU3) is not getting any voltage on the VIN rail.

The only place on the board where I find any voltage is on the first MOSFETs, specifically:...

    Acer Alienware Nitro 5 (GH51G LA-L181P Rev: 1C) & Dell Alienware M15 (GDP50 LA-k452P Rev:1) - Both Shorted PCH (SRKMA)!
    by reessi
    Hello:

I have both these laptops that appeared to have the same fault so I thought I would have a go at replacing the PCH as something to learn, they both are using the same PCH.

    I started on the ACER:

Up on connecting power no signs of life but current is consumed from the bench power supply and the PCH is hot.
All the caps on the top of the PCH are showing 0 ohms and the 3.3v rail is shorted.

I followed the videos from Sorin, Electronics Repair School on Youtube heating from the bottom to install. I practised on around 10 scrap...

HP 450 g1 keeps turning on even tho I shutdown/sleep . one way to stop the turning on cycle is pressing the power button few seconds thus force powering it off. But then sometimes it does not turn on at all but next day I try again to turn it on and it turns on....
