Dell 3008WFP Monitor Power Shut Off & Stained Boards

    Hello All,

Beloved 5-year-old Dell 3008WFP shut off last Saturday. After about half hour of use, the monitor made a small 'blup' noise and shut off (blue power light went off and did not come back on). It was the same 'blup' noise it makes when powering on, so first thought was that it had a power problem.

After trying different power cords and electric outlets, and letting it sit and think about it overnight - without success - Googling found the very informative threads on this forum and at Overclockers:

Was planning to replace the faulty D22 diode with "STMicroelectronics-STPS60170CT Diode Schottky 170V 60A 3-Pin(3+Tab)TO-220AB Tube" from Arrow.com.

Got the monitor disassembled and noticed some brownish discolorations (looks like coffee spilled) on the larger board next to the power board as well as some darker brown stains (looks like rust) on some areas of the power board. Wondering if any of the eagle-eyed experts could take a look at the photos and tell if they see any other issues besides the potential diode problem?

We do not have an electrical background but can follow instructions to do repairs and able to use soldering iron...

Looks like excess flux and/or solder paste. Use isopropyl alcohol and/or contact cleaner to remove them..

Thanks - was wondering if it was flux but there is so much of it - what a mess...

Have not taken the boards up off the heat sink yet - will see what the other side looks like...
