I believe that's a laptop. You want to be over in the "Troubleshooting Laptops & Notebooks" section.

But, to answer your question....if the video shows up on an external monitor, but doesn't light up on the laptop. The chances are you either have an inverterthat is out; or a ccfl that is out. That's usually not a very expensive repair.

The N5110 doesn't have an inverter board, so it's either the panel or motherboard (can also be cable, but is rare). If you turn the system off and hold down the "D" key on the keyboard while powering the system back on, the LCD BIST will run and test the LCD independent of the video controller. If you see the same result the panel is bad.

Re: Dell Inspiron N5110 No LED backlight

I didn't realize the model when I posted yesterday. I have probably seen a dozen of this particular model with a dim backlight caused by the LCD cable being slightly unseated at the motherboard. Before you buy replacement parts I would highly suggest that you take the palmrest off and re-seat the cable.

The LCD cable doesn't have any slack on this model and the rocking off opening the LCD over and over tends so unseat them quite a bit. I'll attach a picture of it in its native habitat. If you re-seat it and it works, I "kapton tape" the hell out of them and they seem to hold up well.

I am, too, having the same issue. I see display on screen but no backlight. The fuses new the screen connector, on the MB, has 19v. Replaced screen cable but same. What else to test? LED Driver?
