    Re: Dell 2007FPB teardown

My second 2007FPB took a dump earlier today. Immediately went to the resistors and there were 3 of them pretty far out of spec, a 2.7k 47k and 75k. Oddly the 10k's that were bad on my other monitor showed fine. I'll have to look at the pictures I took to see if the boards are different. But its back up and running like it should be.

I do know my eyes and hands are getting too old to deal with SMD stuff with the equipment I have on hand...that's for sure.

Thanks. Rubbing alcohol didn't do anything. Was thinking of applying a caulk remover. This stuff is on there pretty good. Hard to believe I can get it clean enough to see what's underneath. Just assumed somebody found an easy solution.

You just have to carefully scrape it off with something plastic. There's not much else that will do it. I don't think there's any chemical that would take care of it and not hurt the board.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to remove the white glue?

In my case (2007FPB) it was R50 on the USB board that was open. Labeled as 01C (10K Ohm).

Managed to pull one of the pads off when I was desoldering the resistor, but there is another spot just next to the pad I was able to get to.

Not sure why Dell felt the need to gunk up this area with the silicone. Would have been a TON easier to troubleshoot without it.

Threw a 1/4watt 10k in the spot and everything appears to be back to normal.

Yes these are old monitors, but they're still a good looking unit for doing standard office work. I've got 2 of them, one left and one right of a 24" Apple somethingorother (got it free, also a nice monitor)

If there was the silicone, I would guess maybe damaged

That could be kinda tricky, we could only guesstimate. Or somebody with the same display can possibly desolder one and measure.

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?
    by Bowline
My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

    Dell 2007FPB compatible boards
    by ckom26
    Hello, folks.
Please, forgive this dumb question but I own a 2007FPb whose logic board is FUBAR (really). Obtaining a replacement is not easy any more (or unreasonably expensive) so I was wondering if replacing the logic board with one from the same line (e.g. 1708FP or 1907FP) would bring it back to life. Are the resolution capabilities for each one "hardcoded" into the main GENESIS chip or auto-sensed and applied? Has anyone tried something similar?

Dell Inspiron 5590 Board 18778-1 no charging, charging not possible
    by master3112
I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.

The power supply unit is not recognized in the Bios and the charging process is set to "idle". I use original Dell battery, type...

Dell Latitude 5420 does not start (no post) need help to find the reason why
    by F R 2568
    Hello all,

this is my first post, so if I make mistakes please do not hesitate to point them out, thank you in advance.

I got a Dell Latitude 5420 (Service Tag: 7RFM6D3, Motherboard: GDF40 LA-491P Rev.: 2.0 (A01)) which does not start and I want to repair it. These are the symptoms:

If the laptop is only connected to the AC adapter (battery removed):

When I press the power button, the keyboard backlight and the display backlight are turning on. Caps key light is lightning, but key does not respond to pressing it.

    The power/battery...
