Bad nVidia aren't uncommon due to defective nVidia chips. [Motherboards too.]

by sam_sam_samThis is from my sonβs gaming computer that at first had minor overheating issues when playing a very intense game with it causing the computer to crash or reboot
Then bough a new motherboard and a new computer case that a cooling system in it already installed also brought the cooling system for this video card but now the issue with it is that it randomly rebooted screen goes blank randomly and suddenly video freezing or started with video being there then blank screen and then the video comes back or it just stays blank for a while and then maybe it will come back but it... -
by doorzonHi all,
With the outrageous prices of new video cards out there I've put some more effort into trying to fix an older card (repairing stuff is always a good idea in my mind, but the learning curve for the video cards seemed steep).
The video card is of GTX 1080 type (GP104 chip) that does not show up on the PCIE bus BIOS overview. It also does not provide any signal out on any of the ports (figures I suppose if is not seen by the motherboard).
Card type:
KFA2 EX OC GTX1080

by eccerr0rAnyone try just cutting all the extra pins and card edge of a PCIe x16 card to make a PCIe x1 video card, just to stuff another slot and connect more monitors?
Would this be considered a ghettomod?-

by SluggerBBuilding a new PC. Nothing high end, but an improvement for me. AMD 8310FX with 32GB RAM.
I want to get a new video card. I play zero 3D games beyond, like Civ 4. Seriously, I do not play PC games. At all. I do a lot of photoshop and 2D work. My current video card is:
GIGABYTE GT 420 2GB 128-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x 16 ATX Video Graphics Cards GV-N420-2GI REV3
There are some photo filters and such that will not run on this due to it being so old. What card should I replace it with? I'd like to keep the cost below $100-
